This is a well made product. When it comes to measurement tools, I need a reliable tool that I can trust for repeatability and accuracy. I chose this based on price and past experience with Rockler products. This one replaces a dial caliper and a vernier caliper.
The best part about this tool is that I can make my measurement, then switch among fractions, decimal or metric to suit the application. This is much more convenient than picking up another caliper to measure again. Unlike some calipers out there, it comes with a padded case to protect it while laying around among other tools.

This is an upgrade from an analog manual caliper for me, so it was a major improvement. I doubt I will ever need down to 1/128" of an inch precision, but for the money it's a great deal. I am enjoying using it !

For the money, this is an excellent tool and it's nice to have the fractional ability. But as others have implied, a fractional reading to the nearest 32nd of an inch is usually enough for me... It would be nice to be able to specify a round off to the nearest eighth, sixteenth, 32nd, etc. Sorry...Give me something great and I always want more.

This is a quality product...with good attention to detail in it's construction. I was pleasantly surprised to see it came with a sturdy shock resistant case and a back-up battery. I have used other digital calipers but none of them compared to this. The auto on/off feature is very nice, and the display is easy to read. A must have for any shop, and worth upgrading to.

Good quality product...accurate. I like the large numbers and the ability to switch between fractions, decimals, and millimeters. I use it for a variety of measurements e.g. board thickness, table saw blade depth, screw/bolt and drill size determination. Agree with a previous reviewer that measurement to 1/128th of an inch is more precision than I need as a woodworker.
This is an electronic piece of equipment and should be treated as such i.e. I wouldn't be 'tossing' it on the workbench.

This is a really superb upgrade to old analog calipers which can on occasion be subject to misreading measurement reticles. Accurate, hefty and just plain handy. A really good value for the price.

This just what I needed so I can take accurate measurements. It's so much better than trying to read a tape measure in many situations.

While replacing my cabinets in the kitchen it was rather difficult to get an exact plumb. When cutting a filler board there seemed to be a gap at one end or the other. This caliper is easy to use in getting the right angle to cut the filler board.

I have used this caliper to measure diameters of turned round stock in addition to depth of grooves made with dado blades on my shopsmith table saw system. This tool is a great addition to my shop.

The product I received was greater than what I expected for the price I paid. An excellent bargain. The six inch caliper feels heafty in my hands. Easy to use, extreamly accurate, (when measured against known objects such as brass bars used for shop machine set-up) these calipers measured dead-on the same in decimal (3 places) as well as fractional. The slide is snug (no sloppy play) but moves easily and positively. The ability to measure 1/128" is a bonus when working with metal. Any woodworker who needs (or wants) a fractional caliper - this is the one. Could not be more pleased with this quality product. But then I expect no less from Rockler.

I am surprised that none of the reviews have mentioned that the calipers are made entirely of plastic. I would rate this product as a good value due to the price, it is inexpensive. I was expecting mostly plastic construction with key parts being metal. The installed battery worked straight out of the box.

Seemed to work well, but does change it's mind on the exact measurement while using it. Might be better if you could somehow calibrate the level of detail you want. Also, the On/Off switch seems to be sensitive as I've found it on for extended periods.

This instrument provides very good value and highly accurate. In woodworking, the high degree of resolution (1/128ths Inch) is generally not required. As noted by Loren A. review, the frequent display changes does result in frustration in obtaining a reading. A light touch of the jaw will often result in change in display.
I find myself first using my old dial indicator calipers first and the Fractional Digital Calipers in those rare instances were greater accuracy and resolution is desired.
In my opinion the instrument could be improved by addition of a button to either reduce the display resolution or refresh rate without affecting display accuracy.

I had a decimal caliper, but now wanted a fractional one. This unit has two great features. When you pick it up to measure, you don't have to reset it to zero, and if you want to switch between decimal and fractional for a measurement, just push the selection button and the change is displayed. Very helpful for scaling plans from photographs.

Great item, I find the inability to round the measument up or down a little frustrating. Actually a bit too accurate as I seldem work in the 1/128th" area. If you need to work that close use a digital caliper for metal working.

This caliper is not only extremely accurate, but you can choose between metric and english units. If a board is 1 and 1/8 thick, that is what the display will say, not 1.125. The case is strong enough to preevent damage, a spare battery is even provided.

I bought the 4" version and couldn't be happier. For less $$ than the regular price of a 6" plastic version sold here also I got a durable looking metal tool. The electronics are still in a bit of plastic and has some of the issues with a lack of a thumb wheel as found on dial and vernier calipers, but this tool is simply an excellent value. The only thing I'd like to have would be a "rounding" mode to get me to the nearest (or even better above/below) 1/16, 1/32, or 1/64 increment. Haven't seen that yet, but if someone were to build it they'd have a customer here!

Very good caliper. No battery life issues. Easy zeroing and repeatability seems to be dead on.
One note -- I chose to try the 4" calipers, since that takes care of most of my day-to-day measurements. However, the shorter length of the 4" caliper makes it more difficult to manage in one hand, when performing measurements of 2-1/2"+ thicknesses. The 6" caliper (even if you don't need 6" capability) gives you more body to hold onto, making one-handed opening of the jaws easier/less-awkward.

More important is the service I got when the first unit arrived unworking. The customer service rep (Sally) was extremely helpful and efficient. A replacement arrived and everything is fine. Another good reason to shop Rockler.

I ordered these fractional calipers from Rockler because they were ~$10 lower than I could have purchased them locally and shipping was free. They function very well, nearly as well as the Mitutoyo's & Starret's I've used at work. The only complaint is that the "extra" battery really isn't extra, the one in the calipers was dead - but that's no beg deal.

Very Good Tool. Have not had an issue with it yet.
However, the case must be weak. The latch was broken upon arrival so it will not stay closed. A minor inconveniece that I am not going to go through the hassles to get a new one.

I received this for Christmas and have discovered I suddenly can't live without this! I was setting up a stacked dado for a plywood application, and with all my shims in place, measured the dado at 23/32" exactly. I ripped the dado and tested it out on my plywood. Snug as a pair of jeans after Thanksgiving dinner. Perfect fit! I give the product a 4 only because the teeth on the top that measure inside dimensions are too small! Also the 1/4" offset from the outside prevents you from being able to use it to determine exactly how far the outside of your dado set is from your fence.

When I received this item, I put the new battery in and the product worked great, as advertised. I put the caliper back in the case and was really pleased. However, the next time I went to use it, the battery was dead. I took out the old battery and inserted the new one and nothing happened. I checked the battery to find it was good. It appears the battery is not making good contact with the terminals in the caliper. Now, it doesn't work at all. Very disappointed with this product.

Digital calipers are terrific ... why have I gone 10 years without one?
But this one started acting erratically during the first hour. Would turn on by itself and off by itself; would switch between mm, fractions, and decimals by itself. And would display the wrong dimension. I'll be returning this and looking for its replacement.

Good tool at a great price! Accurate, fast and more repeatable then traditional calipers. Much easier to read also! The accuracy down to 1/128ths is great, but you do have to remember your math to convert 59/128 as Alan mentioned in his review. Not crazy about the metric feature, personally I don't need it and it's just one more button to hit while jumping between the fraction and decimal settings. The calipers work great to insure the final thickness of wood while planing. Definitely recommend.

I've only used it twice so far, as I just got it, but it seems very well made and very accurate. In fact, it challenges my math skills as it will report in 128ths of an inch, so it takes a minute to realize 77/128" is equal to a tad under 5/8". I have not yet tried it in metric format. All in all, I'm glad I bought it.

I ordered the 6" for home use, and it came better than the picture because it has a thumb wheel to help dialing in exact measurements. Mine has a metal body & jaws with plastic electronics housing. The battery that shipped in my caliper works, so the spare really is a spare for me.

The off/on switch is a problem. On many occasions I have opened the caliper storage box to see the caliper display is turned on. I have removed the battery from the calipers when not in use, but it is a nuisance to do this. I recently forgot to remove the battery. When I went to use the caliper the battery was almost dead because the LCD display had turned on.
Though this is not a mechanical problem, reading to 1/128” accuracy is not necessary for most woodworkers.

Good unit, but you are not able to specify 1/128 or 1/32 scale, so it is difficult to remember that 59/128 is almost 15/32 without thinking about it for awhile. I will stick to my dial caliper.
