I was not expecting much from this box, but for the price it was too good to pass up. I was surprised to find that there was a large selection of small boards of Bloodwood as well as Purple Heart my wee daughters favorite and some 1/4" planks of zebrawood and I think walnut. There were other smaller blanks that could be useful for pens and a some smaller ones than those that would make great trim for smaller boxes and projects.
As far as I can see, I'll be getting at least a few more boxes to use in various projects. Great product.

I just recieved 3 boxes of these last week and am ordering 4 more. Why, you ask? Well, first off it is environmentally friendly to use these as they are cutoffs that would ordinarily be thrown away if not used. I make small boxes and these pieces are perfect for what I enjoy doing. I also have the feeling in maybe a few years it is going to be difficult, if not very expensive and next to impossible to get a hold of some of these species of wood at this price. Granted, it takes a lot of milling and work to get these pieces into usable proportions, but it is well worth the effort. I am stocking up for many years to come so that I always have a good selection of exotics. I will probably order even more soon again. Great bargain for those that like to build small items or make their own inlays. The present price can not be beat!!!

I am a novice woodworker, and thought I would try for some different wood for a few gift ideas. I guess if I were turning I would have been very pleased. I only have access to this machine in class. Therefore, I don't know what to do with such pretty pieces.

I got a great selection in my box, a couple real nice turning blanks as well as decent sized boards and some interesting unique pieces. The only complaint I have is that none of the pieces are labeled or identified in any way. There are a few pieces that I would love to have more of, but I have no idea what they are. But I will be ordering it again.

This is the second box of exotic cutoffs I have purchased and both have been the best investment in exotic woods I have made. The amount of usable wood exceeded my expectations and more. Just a few of the pieces would have cost me twice the purchase price if bought separately. This was a store purchase but the quality and the amount of usable wood is well worth the price.

Ordered one box just as a trial to check. I was afraid it would just be kindling. Wow was I wrong, I did not expect such large pieces and such a wide range of species. I have completed 4 projects so far and still have a lot of wood left. I will purchase again and recomment this to all.

I have ordered 2 of these boxes and have been very happy with both. There is a great mixture of both species and sizes for various projects. There are a few odd-ball pieces and a split here and there but they are cutoffs and are to be expected. They challenge the imagination to use the pieces as small turning projects or inlays that really pop on small projects. I have made a few pens, game calls, and light pulls with the pieces so far and have gotten a lot of compliments on them. All it takes is some creativity.

I am very happy with my box. I'm glad to see the variety of species and the different sizes. Most of the people upset seemed to be expecting turning pieces but my box was made up of about half cubic pieces and half flat pieces. Turners beware, this is probably not the best option for you. Most of the wood I got was Purpleheart. I took a picture of the box I received, it was 23 pieces in total.
PS: I'm a totally new woodcarver and I think other beginners might want to spend a few more bux and get the 20 lb Basswood box because Basswood is MUCH easier to begin with.

I've purchased 4 boxes of these cutoffs so far, 2 boxes had very usable pieces, the other two were so so. All of the boxes, however, had some great smaller pieces which are excellent for accents on larger projects. I was able to make this little box entirely from two of the boxes. I was also able to make a paperweight from a great piece of tulip wood and canary wood for my co-worker.

I got this collection to have a few unique piece around my shop for accent pieces. It is quite a mix and my box contained a lot of purple heart (having a 4 year old who loves purple, that's a good thing!). If you're hoping for just the right size piece you'd be better off ordering what you need/want. Its like a lotto otherwise - you may or may not get what you want.

I have to revise my assessment. The price has gone up, the quality of the wood has gone down. How about an occasional small chunk of pink ivorywood, or ebony, cocobolo, bocote, etc? Disappointing.

I received a box for my birthday, and what a cool surprise it was! Half of the pieces were padauk of superlative quality, most of the others were equally attractive. The pieces in the second box I bought were all squares and more suitable for turning, but not as pretty. Still, each box is a steal at that price! and not knowing what's inside when you buy is, quite frankly, exciting!

After reading the reviews I thought I would try a box. When I ordered they were on sale, so ordered two of them. I am very pleased with what I got. I am new to the Exotic Woods, so it was nice to have and see the mixture of woods. I will be ordering more these boxes.

This is a definite 5 star, I am very impressed with the variety of species and the sizes of all the pieces. If you are in to small projects this is one of the best "material stock" buying options your gonna find!!! It's a definite repeat buy in my book.

I saw the box of exotic wood cut-offs on Rockler online and bought it. I was starting to make 15 wood models and thought the colored wood would make the models more appealing to the eye. This box of small pieces is excellent for these type of projects.

I have to say I was suprised by the size pieces in the box for me good selection of woods. Average size was 2 x 2 x 6 and bigger. The couple smaller pieces I can make pen blanks very litte waste at all in this box. I would order the exotic cutoffs again.

Being new to turning, I decided to purchase this to try out some different varieties of wood. Having asked the salesman is the majority of pieces were large enough to turn between centers, I purchased it. When I got it home and started sorting throught it, I found a few pieces that I could make into pens, and a few that might make small bowls, or be cut made into laminated pen blanks. But the majority of pieces were either extremely thin, or looked like the cut offs from pen blanks (3/4" x 3/4" x 1/4"). Heck I had a few pieces that looked like they were cut off the pallet the wood came on, still have the nails in one of the pieces. Will not be buying this again.

Like me, you are probably wondering what is in the box. Well, there is a wonderful assortment of exotic woods like purple heart, pink ivory, bloodwood, canary wood, zebra wood, and some burls. Overall, the value is not too bad. Some of the woods are large enough to make bottle stoppers, slimline pens, and intarsia accents. Don’t expect the larger pieces found in other Hardwood Assortment Packs. Some of the pieces were literally slivers of wood about 1/32” thick if that. Overall, I would probably order this Exotic Wood Assortment again. Just don’t expect to make things much bigger than a pen at best and some pieces are best tossed out.

My actual rating would be closer to poor. I gave a fair because my wife found a few of the edge scraps to be attractive for plant accents. I am a turner and the bulk of my package was thin strips...of no value to me. I have purchased similar packages from other sources and found them to be far superior. I won't purchase this item again.

I purchased 3 boxes and pretty much they all contained the same mix. A few pieces were cut into irregular shapes and were basically useless ....just a few. I guess because Purpleheart and Padauk are pretty cheap now is the reason there is so much of it in each box. I got quite a few big and bulky end cut offs that will require a lot of milling before they are usable. Some of the pieces are also heavily wax coated which I removed with a scraper.
For the money I still think native hard Maple is the most beautiful wood in the world and a much better buy. Although all the color and grain variations make these exotic species interesting, all in all, I don't think it is worth the time and expense to make boxes from them.

I am new to exotic woods and ordered out of curiousity. Collection sent has some beautiful wood species but no explanation or legend of what is what. The only one I could recognize was the purple wood. I found some pieces I would definitely like to order but have no idea what they are. Very disappointed in this purchase.

I've tried to be super creative, and after gluing and shaping these blocks. I've come up with 2 - 8 inch pieces that are 1" square (which look awful). I understand that not every piece in the box can be perfect.

Great price for what you get, but you also get what you pay for. I had some good pieces, but I had just as many bad pieces. I will buy it again in hope that I get a better box, because the price is very good.

I was very disappointed with what was in my box. The small pieces were worthless and just took up space and weight. I maybe found 3 or 4 pieces I could use. Many of the cut offs were checked and cracked. For the price it is not worth it.

My first order, great selection. However I am not familiar with the types of wood included. A pencil notation on each piece would be helpful. I plan to order again. These pieces make unusual knife grips.

I have purchased a number of the boxes of cutoffs and have become more and more disappointed. The individual pieces have been of such small diameter as to be virtually useless. Occasionally there is a nice piece but not worth the price. I won't be ordering again.

I figured I took a gamble from the mixed reviews and I guess I won't be buying any lottery tickets. I got two boxes...I would say I got about 60% Purpleheart about 1/8th thick and 4-10" long. A lot of it was end grain and I'm really going to have to get my creative cap on for this. Of all the pieces the only ones I pulled out with a smile I quickly realized they were split through the entire piece and only have about a 1 1/4' inch square that is workable on every one! I expected to have some junk but this was a disappointment even for my lower expectations! Save your money and buy lottery tickets it's a better investment!

I was extremely disappointed when I opened the box. There were a couple of nice pieces, but there was a great deal of junk. Pieces so thin that once cleaned up might end up 1/16" thick. Most of the box was a low grade mahogany. Another complaint I have is that many of the pieces were split or had serious checks in the end grain. I would never buy this again, nor recommend to anyone. I expected better.
