Freud's Quadra-Cut™ Router Bits Feature an Exclusive 4 Cutter Design!

For the cleanest finish for routing the edges of hard or soft wood, woodworkers can look to Freud's new Quadra-Cut™ router bits. These unique, patented bits employ four cutting edges, versus the industry standard of two, for a flawless finish on the most delicate of materials.

Two of the carbide cutters have an upshear angle to remove most of the stock. Then the pair of downshear cutters make a final cut to produce an ultra clean edge.

Industry standard bits that only have two cutters can leave fuzz and splinters on the top surface, especially in cross grain cuts, but Freud's new Quadra-Cut bits leave a surface that requires no sanding or rework.

The bit works great. However, if you are doing arched or cathedral panels, Freud's technical staff recommends doing the end cuts in a single pass using at least a 3 hp router (and hold on tight!). A less exciting way was to remove the backcutter until the cove cuts were completed by making 2 passes. Then do a full pass with the backcutter installed. It was very easy to handle the panel and my 2 hp router had no problems at all.

The bit cuts so smooth - We are using Character Ash for our kitchen face frames & doors. We also purchased the Freud 5-pc raised panel door set. The bit cuts fit together like a glove. We fed the pieces through several times taking small swipes at a time until we achieve the cut needed to fit into the framing member.

The bit does a great job of raising a panel.
When using any router bit, be sure to creep up on it by taking small bites, especially in wood such as Hickory that splinters easily. Also be sure to use adequate hold down (featherboard) pressure to keep the edge of the panel flat against the router table.

I had never made a raised panel door before and was a little concerned about a 3.5" bit spinning at 12,000 RPM so close to my hands. This bit was very smooth in operation and did leave a surface that required no sanding even across the grain. I was working in white pine but have no reason that it wouldn't perform equally well in hard woods.
