With its warm red tone and fine, uniform grain, Redheart is an ideal candidate for ornamental turnings. The wood is remarkably easy to work and exhibits very little tearout. Cut from a small, gnarled shrub, it is difficult to find in larger pieces. These turning blanks are available in an assortment of sizes for bowls, platters, carvings, bottle stoppers, chess pieces, tool handles, table legs, spindles, finials, candlesticks and whatever else your imagination can conjure up!

Will turn it into a bowl, when it warms up this spring. Shop is cold now.

I bought 2 Redheart turning blanks (3x6x6)I've had them almost 2 weeks saturday. I centered and bandsawed them somewhat round and put them aside. Sunday I noticed them to be split and cracked. I wonder as I turn them into bowls are the cracks and splits going to carry thru the bowls. My next concern is the blanks were on sale and again I wonder, was this a flaw seen in the wood and just waxed over. As you can read I'm not happy with these 2 products.

Editor's note: If blanks are split to point of being unusable for you Don, please give our customer support at 800-279-4441 with your order info and they will be able to assist you with replacements. The wax coating is used after the blanks are cut to help keep them stable, rather than to cover flaws.

I bought a piece of 3X6X6 of Redheart. I also noticed that after I rough cut it into to a circle, that it started to crack. Maybe if you use end seal right after you cut it, it would not crack a much. I was able to turn a bowl out the blank that I bought. The color is fair and the wood does turn fairly well. But I would like to see more Red.

I purchased this blank about 1 1/2 years ago. Last week I mounted it on the lathe to turn an internal recess to hold the bowl on my nova chuck. As I roughed out the inside of the bowl I noticed cracks developing. The thinner the bowl walls became the larger the cracks got. I was afraid the tension from the chuck was going to split the bowl in half so I filled the cracks with cyanoacrylate and then relieved then tension on the chuck and allowed the glue to dry. It worked and I was able to finish the project. Next time I will turn a tenon first and keep the glue handy!

I purchased a redheart 2x4x4 bowl blank to experiemnt with the wood. The blank was far too green. I haven't had this problem with any other "green" exotic blanks. I turned the blank, and sealed it, but I still had "major" splits and cracks.
