Customer Rating:
Received the router in good condition. Assemble gantry to base, installed software and checked out the CNC controls. No problems encountered.
Did find substantial bow in the work surface. The fiber board material is really inadequate for this application. Have replaced it with some 11 ply maple plywood and have a perfectly flat and stable work surface.
The unit was received without the router clamp. Sent an email to Rockler and the clamped was sent Fed Ex and received it two days later.
Have run approximately 6 each 2D projects and 1east 3 projects from Vector Art 3D. The machine performs as advertised and the results are better than expected.
Also have access to full size Shop Bot and find this equipment just as fast, if not faster than the ShopBot with these size projects. ShopBot takes a little time accelerate when making major transistions.
Cons: No external emergency shut down or control panel. Machine must be controlled from the computer. Would like to be able to disconnect the computer after down loading the G code but simply not possible. Will have to look into some modifications. Program will run but unable to stop or pause the equipment without the computer connected.
Overall, feel this equipment is a good value for the money and would recommend it to any one who needs this type of equipment for their home shop.
Published instructions are rather skimpy, so recommend getting some CNC experience before attempting to bring this equipment on line.
Inlcuded software was found to be easy to learn but I have 30 years of experience with CAD and CAM software.

I just got my Pro model and so far, everything has worked out quite well. The only problem I have encountered is with the bed. Both ends of the X axis seem to drop beginning where the clamp slots are cut. This has caused me to lose some depth of cut when carving near the edges. I plan on taking one of the other reviewers suggestions and add a spoil board and surface it with the machine to eliminate this issue. The software is very good and the tutorials are very helpful. It does have a hard time tracing bitmaps so don't expect to be able to use a lot of them without some work.

I purchased the SharkPro in March of this year and so far the Shark Pro has met my expectations. For a "bench top" model it is well built. My Shark is fitted with the variable speed Bosch Colt laminate trimmer (router) which I find adequate for my carving purposes. To enhance accuracy I provided my own hold down/spoil board and surfaced same with the attached router. I have carved in wood (oak, cherry, cedar and popular) and corian. Occasionally I do a repeat cut on a carve and the machine is able to accurately retrace (no deviation) from the original the cut. The included post processor software is basic but adequate and I would recommend the Vectric VCarve Pro software.

I bought my Pro the 1st of December 2008. I had absolutely no prior experience with a CNC. Within a day I was making signs. Every day I get better with the software and find faster ways to set up the material.
I would give this unit 5 stars except the bed you put the material on is so-so. Other than that, the machine is better than I expected and is alot fun to work with. Also, I called and emailed Tim at Next Wave and he was very helpful. Should you buy this - YES!

My Shark Pro was delivered on-time in 2 heavy boxes via UPS. Non-dedicated packaging was used, but the machine was well protected with styrofoam sheets and peanuts. No components were missing. The bottom plate on the base was bowed 5/16" high in the middle. While that looks bad it doesn't affect the table flatness. The single-sheet assembly instruction was text-only but kept referencing a photo of how to attach the gantry to the base so the XY-axis orientations were correct. I ended up referencing at the Shark Pro photo on Rockler's website. The gantry attaches to the base with 12 torx bolts; plan on having a friend to help. The bolt fit is snug which made vertical alignment fairly straightforward. With the base removed, the Bosch Colt Trim Router (purchased separately) slid snuggly into the Z-axis clamp. The Controler & Power Supply were prewired and the XYZ-axis connectors were labeled. No schematic was included, so I photoed all the connections for future reference and noticed the Line & Neutral connections were reversed on the Power Supply. I contacted Rockler who quickly responded that this Power Supply is insensitive to polarity and would not damage anything once energized. On the Controller enclosure, the hole for the USB connector was misaligned 1/16" so I had to fiddle somewhat to get the USB cable to mate. My new laptop runs Windows Vista, so from Next Wave Automation I downloaded the Windows Vista drivers, Control Program, and NET Framework patch. After 20 minutes of fiddling the Shark still wouldn't communicate with my laptop. With nothing to lose, I downloaded the Control Program for Windows XP instead and the Shark Controller immediately responded. Using the Jog command, I moved the router around the table to check for flatness with a feeler gauge. I noted one corner of the table was 3/32" high and the opposite corner was 1/32" low. VCarve Pro 4.6 loaded uneventfully and gives you the option of license transfer from Next Wave Automation to yourself. Download the Shark G-code post-processor from Next Wave Automation into the appropriate VCarve program directory. Slowly I stepped through VCarve's "Bullshead" demo instructions and created my first G-code file. I clamped a some scrap wood to the table, installed a V-bit in the router, and was CNC'ing sawdust within 3 hours of opening the shipping boxes...............

Machine arrived in good condition. Assembly was not difficult just need to pay attention to order of bolting pattern. After installing software drivers in correct locations machine worked well with a little glitch in starting up the software driver program. All things considered well worth the money for a almost turnkey package.
Suggested improvements:
1. create installation CD that automatically installs drivers into correct sub-directories.
2. provide name plates on stepper motors so if replacement is needed in the future it won't be a guess.
3. provide schematics and manufacture of driver board and power supply for maintenance and repair purposes.
4. Create a maintenance manual with suggested oiling, maintenance time intervals etc.
5. Provide optionally installable limit switches on all 3 axis to protect the machine from incorrect coding.
I would recommend this product as a good beginning CNC router package since it is combined with the V-carve software.

I had a problem with original unit. The table was about 3/32" out of level on the Y axis with the top unit. another base was sent for replacement. The new base had a wire loose in the connector to the controller and gave problems until it was diagnosed.
The unit after finally getting a good product works good.
