Whirlwind Dust Port for Routers

Designed as an accessory to Rockler’s Universal Router Base, this innovative two-piece system contains dust both above and below the bit for mess-free edge routing. The unique top attachment surrounds bit from above, creating a visible whirlwind effect that forces dust down into the larger lower component. The top-piece attaches completely tool-free to the included Inter-Loc baseplate insert. The lower attachment mounts quickly and easily to pre-drilled holes in the Rockler One Plate (Note: the Whirlwind Dust Port is not compatible with other baseplates). Includes mounting screws.

Top component locks in place on the Inter-Loc insert with a simple counter-clockwise turn. For added versatility, the lower attachment can mount in a number of directions. Dust Port fits a standard 2-1/2" dust hose.

1) Submitted by BC, from Eau Claire, WI on 11/3/2008 Customer Rating: The Whirlwind dust port attaches very easily to the Rockler One base plate and seems to be robust enough to handle the extra torque applied when setting the router on its side after use. For those of you who are wondering, as I was, whether or not this will attach to a shop-vac, (I contacted customer service and was told that it would only work with a 2.5" dust collection) it works fine for me. The hose just goes on the inside of the port vs. the outside. The best thing about this purchase is the time saved in sweeping up the floor.

3) Submitted by John, from Street, MD on 4/26/2011 Customer Rating: I bought the port only and not the adapter plate. I am going to use in on a Dewalt 610 router which I will modify. My initial trial fit up indicates that it should work fine. When I do the final modifications I will update the review.

4) Submitted by John Walker, from San Diego, CA on 9/1/2009 Customer Rating: I bought this along with the Rockler One Plate to use with a Dewalt DW625 router. The hole pattern in the One Plate only lined up to allow use of two screws; the third hole that appears intended for use with this router is about 1/16" off, just enough that the third screw will not fit. I decided to use it with just two screws rather than taking it back or re-drilling it. The next problem came when I tried to fit the top attachment - it just won't fit the DW625. So I routed an edge with a 3/8" roundover bit using just the bottom attachment. It did collect some of the dust but not as much as I had hoped. I'll keep it for a few days at least - maybe I can make it work satisfactorily. My DW625 is an early model and did not come with the Dewalt dust collection adapter and the adapter is apparently not available separately so this is the next best thing that I have found.
