The lathe materials are of very good quality and it runs very smooth. Easy to use and within hours I was making my first project on it and this is the first wood turning lathe I have ever used. I know I am going to like this for many projects I have on my mind. I have just retired so I will have plenty of time to spend working with it. The people at rockler were very helpful in getting me set up with everything I needed to make my first project successful.

Had a shopsmith years ago. Just started to turn when I sold it. So being a newbee I did alot of research on what to buy. I chose this lathe and could not be happier. The 3/4 hp motor is a must and all the other parts are made of quality. No plastic parts here. Heavy Duty cast iron bed. You can change the speed with ease in 30 seconds easy...Save your money , no need to buy the variable speed model..GREAT MACHINE.

Just new to turning and this lathe is a great starter. I have used it to turn wood and plastic pens, wine stoppers, small hollow cherry bowls and now trying larger 10" dia, x 3 1/2" deep green turned bowls. Good speed range and power. Only drawback is short shaft on light to use on larger bowls and lower belt door knob I changed to smaller knob to making opening easier. Wish I had purchased stand at the same time as my bench mount limits hollowing swing. Good buy!
