I purchased two sets of the panels and built the cabinet from the free plans available on the Rockler website. These panels are very high quality. They are heavy-guage steel with a quality paint job and beefy rubber grommets to keep your work from sliding. I am very pleased with the product. My cabinet works well. The large surface area with my 1 1/2 horsepower dust collector does not give the high volume of airflow I had hoped, but after testing the device by sanding some scrap with a palm sander I found the airflow was sufficient! I didn't experience the annoying airborne dust particles I normally would without this cabinet. I wouldn't recommend building a cabinet any larger than the four-panel configuration unless you have a robust dust collector that moves a lot of air.

In recent years, I have developed some alergy problems with some wood dust walnut & cedar especially. I found the downdraft table on the Rockler web site, ordered the parts, hooked it up to my existing vaccuum and have been much more comfortable while sanding and especially after.
Very clear instructions on the plans.

The downdraft works pretty good but the material slips around on the surface. I was disappointed once I started to use it. It's difficult to sand a board that will not stay put in one spot.

The plans are good and the down draft is excellent! I also used a rabbit for the edging. it works well.

Great inexpensive alternative to full size downdraft table. Works great with my 1 1/2 hp dust collector. I found a very useful hint on another website. Cut 1 or 2 3/4" pieces of MDF to the same dimensions as the Rockler panels. When sanding smaller items, replace Rockler panels with MDF panels and it will improve suction.

Free plans made this a easy build. When done, connection to my dust collector made made sanding a very enjoyable chore compared to the old way which produced much airborne dust and made a mess out of me and my shop.

I built the case as per the downloadable plans and would suggest these modificationd;
panels B and C increase 1/2 in
cut 1/4 x 1/2 rabbits in panels A
Rabbets provide more gluing surface than butt joint, and screws in the end grain of MDF probably would not hole long.
Also, add handles to sides A for added portability.

Maybe my shop vac isn't powerful enough, but I am disappointed in the results it obtains. There is a lot of debris left on the table as I sand. It gets some of the dust, but no where near the 90% claimed in my opinion.

I haven't had time to build this as of yet, but it looks like a great addition to any wood working shop.

I have used this plan and product several times with good results. For sanding smaller hand held pieces I place a cardboard the size of a panel over each of the two outside panels which increases the air flow draw.

I built the box as per plan and everything fit perfect. NOTICE, you need TWO SETS of the tabletop panels. I didn't catch that at first and had to order two more.

Works very well. The rubber grommets would be better if made of the same texture as the Bench Cookies. After sanding a few pieces the dust on the grommets builds up and the work slips around a bit.
For the health conscious, for maximum removal of dust you need the total area of the holes in the sanding table to be more than the area of the collection hose. Thus a 4" hose needs at least 28 holes exposed. I'd be happy to have someone check my math. Because the resistance of multiple small holes is greater than one large duct, more open space is needed! let's guess at 32-35 holes. Less than that and dust will settle out in your system. The catch 22 is that the more holes open the less suction applied to each and the less draw for the dust. So cover up all but the 35 holes closest to your work piece with some tag board or scrap wood.

Product worked great, glad I made the purchase. Built the supporting box with leftover plywood pieces per the free plans and modified panels B & C as suggested by Al Cheeks (9/8/09). Sanded and finished the inside to reduce friction. System works great. Airborne wood dust greatly reduced. Still need to add side handles as suggested by Al (also a good idea).

I have only used it once so far, but can see that it works just fine. I plan on using it a lot.
