and a wide variety of other interior woodworking projects. Additional features:

Unbelievable stuff! I was looking for a "safer" sealant for the wood of our raised garden beds so chemicals wouldn't leach into the soil{and thus into the veggies}and was told about this coating by a major organic farm who uses it on all their raised beds and chicken coops. I used the exterior Poly Whey on the lumber for our garden beds in early 2011, and the wood has now been through two 100+ degree summers, and crazy Texas weather looking like it was treated just yesterday. Also used the indoor version to seal several things, and it works awesome as well. I have a very sensitive sense of smell, but have never noticed any strange odors or "out gasing" as one reviewer said they have, and we find this to be completely odorless when dry. Love Vermont Natural Coatings Poly Whey, and it's worth every penny!

I have been using Vermont Natural Coatings Poly Whey for a few years now and in my opinion it is the best on the market. No odor, Lays down perfectly, Dries very fast with a great finish. Every Farm House table that I sell goes out with Poly Whey on it and my customers love it! It costs a few cents more but it is SO worth it!

On a whim, I tried the PolyWhey Satin on my newly refinished oak staircase. Yowza! It is indeed pretty impressive stuff.
It goes on smooth and silky, very much like a regular water-based polyurethane. Less sticky, though, so it self-levels a bit better. In the can it's fluid and has the standard milky consistency like all waterbased polys, but this one is slightly pink (!). Dries crystal clear.
The drying time is exceptional -- dried completely within an hour (low humidity, 70degree day). Can says to give it two. Ready for sanding and recoat practically before you can blink.
Best of all: NO ODOR. I applied it without a mask, indoors. One room away in the kitchen, nobody could tell I was applying a wood finish. Perfect if you have chemical sensitivities, small children or critters you'd like to protect.
I'm sold, and will never go back to regular poly (water or oil) as long as this product is available. Am eager to hear of others' experiences using it as a floor finish.

Pros: Easy to apply using little more than your garden variety foam brush. More than adequate "open time" allows for quick corrections of the odd drip or run. Dries clear and hard in little over an hour. Recoat in two. As is true of ALL water based finishes, looks best over a sealer coat or two of FRESH DE-WAXED shellac. The shellac helps "pop" the wood figure/grain. Just about the least toxic, most environmentally friendly hard/top coat out there.
Cons: I really can't think of any. It does cost a wee bit more, but then again, you get what you pay for.
I'm a professional luthier custom classical guitar maker, by the way.

Well, the product itself is phenomenal - BUT - Vermont Coatings has decided to re-package the product in a plastic can with a "vapor lock" lid - while that sounds great, because of the small size of the can, you either have to apply so much leverage to the lid that the can will spill when you are opening it, or you have to score the lid around the entire perimeter with a pair of wire cutters in order to open the can, thus destroying the "vapor lock". These kinds of cans work well when very large like for drywall mud but are terrible when very small as in this case. And no instructions for how to open it, either!

I wanted to love this product but there are odor problems with the floor finish. Still smells weird after 3 weeks and is off-gassing as well. I understand that this product could, like other waterbased polyurethanes, off-gas for years.
