This is THE answer to a locking caster system for power tool bases. I attempted to build one for my radial arm saw using individual standard hardware store locking casters and wasted about the same $ that this set cost. Moral-don't waste time and money re-inventing the wheel.

I put these on a router table which had two fixed casters and one movable and now I can move it anywhere with no trouble.

I have four sets of these casters on tools ranging from a 14" bandsaw to a 2'x6' workbench/router table. The advantage of a locked stem in addition to a locked wheel is a much more rigid base. I'm very well satisfied with these casters.

My vintage Sears jointer had old, inferior casters. These installed very quickly, without any modifications, and now the machines is a pleasure to move around. Quiet, smooth, a huge improvement. I ordered another set for my router table.

I used them on a shop built router table a fairly massive piece with a 3hp router. They make moving the table a breeze and when locked, the table is steady. The only problem I encountered is I have 2" square wooden legs on the table. I drilled holes in the bottoms of the legs to mount the shafts of the wheels. I worry that if I "catch" a wheel I could have enough leverage to break the wheel out of the hole. BTW when they are on sale, these wheels are a great bargain.

When I bought my JessEm Excel router table, the wheels I bought had 1/2 inch stems and didn't work for the JessEm. At that time, neither JessEm or Rockler sold wheels with stems that would fit. This set has 3/8 inch stems and works great. My router table is now portable as are my other tools which makes my limited shop space much more usable. Plus the table stays very stable with the wheels locked.

I wasn't sure about using these casters on my Rikon 14" bandsaw with stand. The saw weighs 260 lbs. and even before I put it on a base, the whole saw had slight tendency to "rock" from the base being on my uneven garage floor. I tried putting the saw on the Jet universal mobile base and I ended up returning that base. There was just too much flex in the base wheel assemblies and the saw felt very unstable.
I had to drill 4 holes (3/8" bit) and add 2 strips of plywood to the bottom of the base, but now the saw is more stable than ever. It rolls really smoothly and quietly. I'm very happy with my purchase so far. I'm a bit nervous about the plastic brake lever, but it hasn't broken yet. I figure it would be pretty cheap to replace them if one of them ever breaks. The only other thing is that the plastic brakes take up a bit more space than I'd like. They tend to bump up against the bottom of my saw, since I had to use a piece of 3/4" plywood to support the 1" thick stand. I've seen other models with all metal construction that have a lower profile when flipped into brake mode.

I would have rated this product as excellent, but a washer and locking nut are shown in the picture. However, having purchased two boxes for two projects, neither box had washers or nuts. Minor as they are readily available at a hardware store, but I was working after closing hours and could not finish the installation until I purchase the missing pieces. Otherwise, excellent price for the quality.

Editor's note: This set includes 3/8"-16 thread nuts w/built in lock washer. Our customer service team at 800-279-4441 is available to assist when a product is found to be missing components.

I'm using the set of wheels on an old Delta Bench Saw which is mounted on a stand I didn't get from Rockler.
When first mounted the flat part on the bottom of two of the legs bent upwards.
This was remedied by cutting a piece of 3/4 plywood, drilling matching holes and re-securing the casters to the whole rig.
Works great in a small shop which had to be re-floored with mismatched thicknesses of scrap plywood to be usable at all. No problems rolling and the wheels lock solid.
For those complaining about space to put a wrench while tightening the nut - I just locked the brake and turned the whole assembly to run the nut down, then held it while I turned the nut sufficiently to bring the end of the shaft even with the top of the nut. Worked just fine.

I put all four locking wheels on the stand for my General Scroll saw am very happy so far as my garage is small and the manuverabilty is of high value. My only complaint is as someone else mentioned when the wheel stud or thread is inserted into the table leg there is not enough clearance to get a wrench in to hold the nut just above wheel so the wheel bearings don't spin when trying to tighten the nut on the threaded stud. I had to thread a second nut on the wheel assembly as a spacer then inserted the wheel in the table leg. A hexagonal spacer or 2nd nut per leg included in the box whould be beneficial. It they were I'd have given it a 5.
