I've used this jig a lot, and value for money it would be hard to beat, certainly an improvement in safety over some of the other available taper jigs. The clamps hold the wood in place nicely, and for thicker stock I just used some longer T-bolts. It's also good for ripping a straight edge on rough cuts. Although I haven't needed to do large angle tapers, I can see that the handle would get in the way.....I should also point out that I NEVER hesitate to order anything from Rockler because their customer service is EXCEPTIONAL, on the odd occasion that I've had a problem with an item they have bent over backwards to make replacement as easy as possible.

I bought this jig a few months ago on sale with free shipping, knowing I would eventually use it. Well today I used it. I can't tell you how much of a joy it was to use compared to the old scissors type aluminum one I have. It was also a lot safer in my opinion. It was easy to set up. And the tapered legs were dead on. Once you have it set up the cuts are repeatable. Highly recommend.

So far I have only used this jig to make straight cuts on rough lumber and it has worked very well. I assembled the jig but needed to make adjustments to use it on my old Craftsman 100 table saw. Just like any tool, there is a little tinkering time involved. It's definitely a useful shop item.

This jig is much safer and easy to use than the cheapy all aluminum one. Mine did not have any problems with square to the blade as some have experienced. Worked great for cutting the slats on some Adirondack chairs I made. I am really glad I bought it. Was going to make my own, but by the time all the hardware is purchase, you might as well buy this one.

Jig is fine but beware if you a SawStop. The tape on the jig is metal and can trigger the brake on the SawStop. A new brake cartidge and blade will set you back over $100. Advice: trim about 1/8" of the end of the tape on the blade side of the jig. The first few times I had no trouble but then the brake triggered.

I have not had a need to use this jig yet. The two sets of holes provided for the miter gauge bar were not in the right location for my table saw. One set would have cut off to much of the jig and the other set did not cut off enough. I had to drill new holes to just trim off enough to use it. Other than that I think this jig will work as it should.

This is a great product for the money, especially as I found I could use this jig for multiple purposes. I reomoved the handle and reversed the grips and found I could take even the roughest of wood and create a straight edge to work from. Much faster than screwing "straight" pieces of wood to edge of odd pieces like shown in the photo.

I have a homemade taper jig that works well with flat stock but not so well for legs. I was going to make another one when I saw this one in your catalog on sale. Buy the time and money I would have spent getting the hardware and such I thought this would be a better deal,I was right. Within a little time I was cutting perfect legs. There were two problems that kept me from giving it a 5 star rating. One was the holes for mounting the miter bar didn't work out for my saw. One was to far away from the blade the other was to close and the cut to square it up would have been to close to the slot for the top bar. This was an easy fix. I drilled some new holes between the factory holes, problem fixed. The other was the lack of good instructions. With a little time all things can be figured out.
Over all this is a well constructed jig and I have no regrets for the purchase. As with all the things I have bought from Rockler.

I received this today and just assembled it in 5 minute's. Easy assembly however the short pair of bolts that clamp the fence in place are too short to fully engage the brass threads in the threaded knob.
It's a small thing but for me it means a trip to the hardware store. I would have gladly paid Rockler for another 3/8" of thread per bolt. Having said that I anticipate this jig will perform as well as all of the other products purchased here.
Also enjoyed the fastest shipping ever, 3 days! Keep up the great work.

It was so easy to assemble I really didn't consider any level of difficulty. It's almost too easy to assemble.
I have only had one oppertunity to use it and that was to make two table legs for a desk rebuild and it worked so great I am looking forward to its next use.

I have a Laguna Fusion table saw, and I can almost make a zero-clearance cut in this jig. The first set of holes for the miter bar would cut off way too much of the jig, and with the miter bar in the the second set of holes, my blade comes up about 1/16" from the jig. If the base of the jig was maybe 1/4" wider, it would have worked great. I glued a strip of wood onto the base, thus making it wider, and made the zero-clearance cut. I have not used it yet, but it looks a lot nicer and friendlier to use than my old anodized blue scissor-type taper jig. I like the reference marks to be able to dial in an angle of cut and the fact that this is a sled with hold-downs and a handle. I noticed the short T-bolts that other reviewers have mentioned, but there are still multiple threads in contact with the T-bolts, so I don't think this will present a problem.

I found the Taper/Straight Line jig, not a bad tool, but of limited value. As it sits above the table, it cannot be used with thin pieces of wood, such as tapering table legs. And I assume wide pieces of wood would require some kind of "outrigger," which you will have to manufacture, to keep the wood level against the blade. Second, it appears to be made out of MDF which was already chipping out of the box, and clearly would not take the riggers of even moderate use. The screws were already breaking through. Third, there were marks and measures, but no real precision. At this price I would have expected a way to accurately tweak the angle, but it was all by eye.

Does not fit properly on my Hitachi C10FL 10-inch table saw. Holes on the jig are not in the correct position. If I put them in the first set of holes they are too far from the blade. If I put them in the second set of holes, I would have to cut at least 1/4-inch off the jig to obtain zero clearance which would render the jig useless. I now have to drill new holes to try and fit it properly. Very disappointed in the quality of the jig.
Editor's note: as per step 1 of instructions you'll use the set of holes for the miter bar that will give you that intial 1/4" cut off to create a zero clearance for the jig. This is the intended design of this jig.

After several years of putting up with a rinky-dink homemade tapering jig I finally bit the bullet. Armed with my $15.00 coupon I went to Rockler in Beaverton and bought this beauty. Took me 20 minutes to set it up and then another 30 minutes to cut 8 legs for my N gauge train setup table. I like it.

I finally replaced my shop-made jig and am very happy I did. This jig is very easy to assemble, very easy to use and ,most importantly, is safe to use because is securely hold the stock and the handle keeps your hands away from the blade. Sure you can make a jig like this, but I'd rather make finished products than jigs. The limitations are that is won't handle very wide or thick stock. But it is perfect for tapering table legs.

While many of Rockler's products are very good, this one doesn't quite acheive that level. The concept is very good, but the realization suffers from cheap materials. The main material is particle board. This doesn't affect the base, but does affect the angle bar. Tightening the T-bolts that secure the hold-downs warps the angle bar upward. A much stiffer angle bar would improve the jig considerably. Also, on my jig, the edges of the base were not perfectly straight. This is especially important for the edge that rides along the rip fence, because the straightness of the workpiece cut depends entirely on the straightness of the edge of the base. I have a very good, straight, straightedge which I used to router the base edge perfectly straight which greatly improved the straightness of the workpieces I cut using the jig. In other words, without truing the edges of the base, the jig is only good for work for which precision straightness is unimportant.

Another great new product. I have a Jet Cabinet saw and using the outboard holes, it fit perfectly to my saw blade. I did not have to cut a thing on the jig. Easy to set up, the clamps are great and the handle gives great control. I can see me using this alot for thin straight-line cuts. The only thing I added to the jig was a 3/4" hole for hanging the jig on the wall.

Even though I have a jig I did myself (plywood made with clamps) this one is more straight (MDF) and is more simple than mine which made me use it instantly.
I can be use for different applications.
I'm satisfy with it, because it is easy to handle. As any MDF jig or table I can have I added some oil first and then Shellac around the trim and where the parts move, in order to make it more compact and durable throughout the yrs of use.
10/13/10
This is an excellent jig. Recently I moved the bar to the opposite side and opened there also a countersink hole for the handle now can be used on both sides. By doing that, now I can use it almost all the time in my 14” Bandsaw and 10” tablesaw without changing positions.
Usually these jigs are useful for other things as well if you just add some imagination to it. Same with my home-made jigs. Sometimes you are ready to build a new jig and then you realize that from an existing one and with just a minor modification, you could add a new attachment to the old one.

I was almost forced to make a similar jig before this one was available. I had to make some taper cuts in window trim molding (window is close to the ceiling) and needed a way to hold the narrow molding securely. This jig is better than what I planned to make. The only problem was cutting the metal rulers after installation.

Platform should be larger, too small for wide boards. Handle location precludes using full width of platform. Shorter T bolts are too short, barely engage. Instructions provided are skimpy, printed on the box. Platform did not reach blade on my Powermatic 2000, so zero clearance using miter bar is not possible.

I agree that the instructions are too skimpy. There should be some additional details even though this is not a complicated jig. I don't think having instructions printed on the box alone is appropriate. My biggest complaint is that I stuck the friction strips on as shown on the box, aligning them with the back edge of the jig. Now, when I put a small sized part on the jig, like a table leg and clamp it down, since some of the part rests on the friction strips and some rests on the jig itself, the leg is at an angle side to side. I think the friction strips should be attached so that they align with the leading edge (closest to the blade) so that narrow parts would rest completely on the friction tape. Even doing that would possibly cause some problems for short pieces that do not span two friction strips.
Overall, though the jig is well made. I think it will be very handy around the shop.

Maybe ok for light projects, but not for making many cuts with precision I was looking for. The clamps that hold the work in place do not always grab underneath as they should, so clamps can slip. I expected more quality and less flexible, thin particle board. I had a high school student come make me a great jig from scrap oak and plywood that works like a charm.

The jig worked well for my purpose after I made some modifications to it. When I ran it through my saw to make the zero clearance cut, I found that only about the last six inches of the base made contact with my saw blade. After verifying that my miter slot and saw blade were parallel, I found that the miter bar of the jig was not parallel with the edge of the base. I then drilled new holes for the bar that were closer to, and parallel with, the edge of the base. After doing this and reassembling the jig, I was then able to make a good zero clearance cut. Even though I successfully used the jig to make some tapered legs, I wasn't real thrilled with the fit of the hold downs and the slot they fit in.

As some others have stated the MDF is thinner than expected. I was disappointed when I placed it on my table saw....In the left miter slot it appears it would make a great zero clearance cut, but the push handle is then on the wrong end. If I put it in the right where it should go it is about an inch from the blade, if I move the miter bar I'll cut through the slots. I could move it somewhere between the existing holes to 'make it work' but I shouldn't have to do that. Out of the box it's not working for me. I think I'll dig through my magazines for those plans for a taper jig.

I read all of this jig's reviews before picking it up at my near-by Rockler store at a good price.
The box was damaged a bit, but the contents were okay. Assembly took about 10 minutes. The instructions on the box are minimal but adequate. I checked Rockler.com for jig instructions. They are available and the same as those on the box. By the way, I suggest all woodworkers check for technical info on any Rockler product they buy. Rockler is pretty good about info on the stuff they sell.
When assembled my jig came within 1/8 inch of touching the right side of the saw blade for a zero clearance fit on my Grizzly G1023S TS. Others have had this problem too. I don't know if there is a standard dimension between the right miter slot and blade for 10 inch cabinet saws. Makes me wonder how Rockler decided the width of the jig base. It could be a bit wider.
I checked my saw and fence for squareness and did a skim cut on the left of the jig base. Then I glued an oak sacrificial strip to the base for a perfect fit after trimming with the jig miter bar attached.
The plastic screws in the miter are adjustable and gave me a perfect fit. No slop!
Some have complained about the friction strips provided for the base. They can easily be replaced with adhesive backed sandpaper as the need arises.
The adhesive scales included in the box are made of steel, making them a bit difficult to trim for fit once attached. All of the other adhesive scales I've used are made of plastic. I wish my table saw fence scale was as hefty and durable.
I agree with other reviewers that the jig base is too thin. I suppose Rockler opted for maximum saw blade height over board stiffness. The jig instructions warn about using too much tightness before cutting the work.
If this jig had fit my TS perfectly, I would have given it an excellent rating. No matter. Having attached a replaceable strip to the left side gives me a perfect fit. I expect this jig will work very well for a long time. My shop-made taper jig will just gather dust now.

I was forced to look at the picture on the box which caused me to have to disassemble it a couple of times until I got it correct. The miter bar did not fit my saw. There can't be that many slots sizes for table saws. I would expect a product of this quality to provide for more than one size.

The really only bad things about this jig I have are 1. I had to use the pictures on the box to see how it all went together. and 2. not wide enough for wide rough stock to make a straight edge. I was hoping to use for slight tappering an edge for an 8" false drawer front but it wasn't wide enough so had to do something else. But the jig is well made, sturdy and easy to use.

Fisrt, let me state clearly that the low rating is only because the product will not work with my tablesaw as designed. I do think the jig is made very well and would probably be a great jig ... IF it worked on my saw. When I received the jig, I was very surprised to find that it was too narrow to reach from the right hand miter gauge slot to the blade, regardless of where I attached the miter bar. The problem: it is 7" from my miter slots to the blade and the maximum the jig will reach is 5 1/2". So, it is going back - a shame since it was a good price and well made. So, the moral of the story is "check your saw" before ordering. My saw is a Jet 10" Super Saw model #JWSS-10CS.

The first problem I encountered was the lack of instructions. Why not include decent instructions? How much could it cost? The next problem was trying to cut a table leg taper from a six inch width to a four inch width. The platform is too narrow for a six inch cut. I found a one minute 24 second video on Rockler's site which suggests taking off the miter guide and pushing the jig along the saws fence. This may work, however, I have not tried this yet.

This product works great, but the materials used to manufacture this jig are why I would rate this product as poor. Rockler offered me a replacement which I appreciated but I told them I was not interested in a new one that was made of the same materials. The pressure of the clamps on this product have started splitting and cracking the product after only a few uses. I was expecting more for what I paid for this item.

For a light use jig, it is quite good & suits my purposes. I am concerned that the material is not as robust as I would have expected. The pan bolt to mount the fence is too short. They also have poor bearing surface, so I have added flat washers to ease the pressure on the slots. I like the adjustable mitre bar & the hold downs. I have preferred to cover the base with a fine PSA paper to thoroughly lock everything in place. The complaints about poor instructions are frivolous & the included instrument screwdriver is an unexpected bonus.
