The xylophone kit that I purchased has the same problem that other people have complained of... Some of the lower keys don't resonate well & sound "flat". I tried turning these keys over & the sound improved. The instructions were easy enough to follow & I made a combination of both types of frames with an open bottomed box to help out the tone.

I put this together with some leftover pieces of wood I had sitting in my shop. It turned out pretty good and the end user is very pleased.

Great kit. Cool plans. I ended up varying from the instructions a little. See the photo. Also, the #10 pan screws they recommend, typically have a head the exact same diameter as the holes in the resonators.

Fun kit, but I disappointed that the instructions were so poorly written and confusing. The construction diagram was almost too small to be read, and the numbers were printed in an old dot matrix typeface that was hard to read. If you can be a little inventive and read between the lines, it's a pretty cool little project. Read the instructions several times before proceeding.

The instructions are okay, but I enlarged mine. The pitch is off on some of the lower note bars and the low C bar will not resonate. The upper notes are fine though. It is okay for a child. I built the slender bar version which is pretty simple.

One of the notes did not ring true when played. The instructions were indeed a bit on the confusing side, requiring several read-throughs. But the completed xylophone was handsome and popular.
