1) Submitted by David Pickett, from Chanhassen, MN on 11/4/2009 Customer Rating: I have a large collection of palm carving tools, but this was my first -- and so far, only -- purchase of mallet-type tools. They've served me extremely well. The tools arrived with ready-to-use sharp edges, no honing required, and are comfortable to use with a carving mallet (I use a urethane-head model) and equally comfortable for use in hand work. The handles are comfortable and easy to grip, at least for my large-ish hands, and the faceting prevents them from rolling off the bench when set down outside the case. The case is made of lightweight wood, not protective enough to drive over it, but good enough to keep the tools from banging around and damaging the edges. The set does not have sufficient variety to fill ALL of your carving needs, but it does complete the "gouge" category well enough for the first year or two, at least. The price is decent as well. Recommended!
