Make your own creative handle and assemble the components in this kit for your own custom bread knife. Each kit includes a bread knife blade, two screws, a pattern for the handle and three 18''L x 2-1/4''W x 1/4'' thick wooden slats to form the handle.

Walnut Kit contains walnut (2) and maple (1) slats and the Maple Kit contains maple (2) and walnut (1) slats.

I've now made 8 or so of these breadknives. I only used the kit for the first one, and since have been making my own blanks and using just the hardware. The pattern needs to be enlarged by 325% by my copier at least, which requires two pieces of 8 1/2 x 11 paper, but it's fairly trivial to shift the pattern over and then tape the two pages together. For first timers, the pattern fits better on the blank at an angle. It did appear at first to not fit the blanks. The knife blade works very well as a bread cutter. I've made so many because I keep getting asked to make more from people who have seen the first few.

It was an easy project to make. When I went to drill the holes for the blade I drilled four holes so it can be used for both a right handed or left handed person. I also made the box and flocked it. I will get more so I can give them for gifts.

The kit came with wood that did not meet the advertised dimensions.
This makes it very difficult to transfer the included pattern to the wood. It was 2 inches not the advertised 2 1/4 inches wide.

Wood in kit was of fair to good quality. Pattern included is scaled @ 5/16" to the inch so transfer to full size may be a little difficult for some. Full size pattern would be helpful!

Wood was good, blade works very well if attached with some tension. Unfortunately the pattern is not full sized! It was more of a task to up-size the scaled pattern than the project itself.

Arrived in short time and in good shape. Couldn't find plans till I opened package, small photo was disapointing. Glued up well, cut out ok, sanded fine and attached blade and split out the wood, reglued, filled holes, drilled and tossed screws. Went to smaller size, worked great. Love the way it cuts. It needs bigger diagram to follow and smaller screws.
