Purchased the jig for thick timbers as I needed a capacity of 3.5 inches. Worked like a charm. I found that wood dust created by the drilling process would fill in the alignment marking scribe making it very easy to see with the little help of a portable shop light. Purchased the jig to create bunk bed posts. The stock I was using was 1.75" thick so I ripped two pieces 3.5" in width and then connected two pieces using a dowel joint every 7 inches. Ended up with a bed post 3.5" square with each post having approx. 10 dowel joints. After gluing the dowels into one piece, the dowel holes on the second piece fit like a glove. This is a great jig and is a must if your woodworking uses a lot of dowel joints.

Worked great right out of the box. I used it while making a baby bed for my first grandchild. I couldn't be happier with the results. Make sure you mark your center points dark enough to align the jig and you'll have no problems. Be sure to keep the jig flush with your work surface or your holes will be angled.

The jig worked well. I used it to attach items of different thicknesses, and the alignment was consistent. A little difficult to see the mark, but workable.

I have the other self centering doweling jig that opens to 2" but the legs on my project required 2 1/4". It worked great. I did not have any trouble with aligning the jig. It is fast and easy. It has cut at least two days off of this project compared to using mortise and tenon joinery. It may not be as strong but the last crib I made with dowels is still holding together. I used brad point bits to do the drilling. It does wear the bits out faster but I can't imagine what the job would be like without this jig. It was well worth the price I paid for it. I also use it to align the threaded inserts that I use for fastening the bed sides. There is no doubt that my inserts will line up with the bolts.

Have used this jig for quite some time. Sometimes hard to align 'til you get used to it. Have a set of sharp bits that are used only with jig.

I use this jig for bigger pieces. Takes a little bit to align properly, but is a very useful tool. I made a cradle for the first grandchild and it came out exceptional.
