Freud 99-760 Premier Adjustable Rail and Stile Bit Set

Create “rattle-free” flat panel doors and mill tenons of any length with these quarter round bits. Works for any door 5/8" to 1-1/4" thick. Unique cutter geometry virtually eliminates tearout. Adjustable shims enable a tight fit when using plywood and also allow use with thick panels. Remove the top portion of the cutter (including bearing and spindle) to produce the front of the long tenon profile for blind tenons, through tenons or bridle joints. High-density carbide composition and Perma-Shield coating lengthen bit life and protect against heat and pitch build-up. 1/2" shanks.

1) Submitted by Ben Weber, from San Antonio, TX on 9/30/2010 Customer Rating: I rate this poor simply because I bought it on the premise that I could get rattle free doors using plywood panels. Well guess what, most plywood these days is 5.2mm and this set only goes down to 5.6mm. Result, panel still rattles. If you use thicker stock, product performs well. Just be aware.

2) Submitted by Chip, from De Fo, WI on 12/15/2010 Customer Rating: The previous review is somewhat accurate, but the manufacturers of wood products are literally "shaving" products to save money. If you use space balls there are no rattles. I highly recommend this set for your rail and stile projects. If making glass doors as well get the glass door kit. it makes life much easier.

I too was a little disappointed by the fact I could not get a PERFECT fit using this set and the 5.2mm plywood panels that seem to be the norm these days. The solution would have been painfully simple for Freud as well..thinner bearing and allow me to shim up, which is the intended purpose and main selling point, too bad. A Why would you use spaceballs with thin ply or MDF core panels? BEven if you prevent "rattling" you still would have unsightly gaps. This set is the best i've seen otherwise, meaning for thicker than 5.6 mm stock
