The JIG IT® Hinge Mortising System lets you cut perfect butt hinge mortises every time. And with the optional inserts, you can add butler tray, sewing machine and custom mortises to the list.

JIG IT® Hinge Mortising Jig Accurately create a variety of hinge mortises with this easy-to-use jig. Install butt hinges of all sizes with the standard jig. Use special inserts (sold separately) for butler and sewing machine hinges. Or make your own insert for custom jobs. It's simple to operate, and the durable aluminum construction will provide years of reliable help in the shop. The system includes a custom pattern router bit, and complete instructions. No insert is required for routing butt hinges. Use hinge to adjust the jig for mortise length. Clamp in place. Adjust your router depth using the custom pattern router bit. Square the corners of the mortise with a chisel and mount the hinge.

It worked very easily and made a very accurate fit due to the fact that the hinge is used as a template for the width and the flush bit didnot require any additional calculations. Easy and fast to use.

The only complain is the handles on the jig to tighten the wood to the plate are a little to big and awkward. They were getting in the way and had to be lined up just right to make it work with the piece of wood I was using. Otherwise great!

4) Submitted by Pedro Colman, from Sunnyside, NY on 5/20/2008 Customer Rating: I (nearly) immediately used this jig for some box hinges, and it worked perfectly, but I think there are some quality control issues. The wood board which determines the length of the hinge on my jig was had a space routed out on the wrong side (or the holes for the ratchet knobs were drilled on the wrong side), leaving the knobs closer the box/door being mortised, instead of farther. The two countersunk machine screw had heads too large for the holes and were proud of the surface. Both these issues made the jig unusable as is, but a few seconds on the router table solved the problem with the board, and a belt sander solved the problem with the oversized machine screw heads. The jig now works perfectly, but I cannot give it an excellent rating because of the fixes I had to make.

I used it to rout the sewing center hinges into the top of the cabinet grade red oak plywood and red oak edging. It was easy to do and very accurate. Without this jig, free-hand routing would have left a sloppy job.

Assembled quickly and easily except for the sewing machine template would not fit into the slot on the fixed side of the jig, I had to file the left edge of the template to make it thin enough to fit the slot. Other than that the product produces quality mortises.
