I purchased these stones for sharpening knives for deer hunting and they work very well for that. I'm particular about how sharp my hunting knives have to be. If your a hunter, particularly deer hunter you know what I mean. I recently sharpened a old chisel that has been sitting around that belonged to my father. It was in pretty poor shape. Edge dinged and in need of honing/sharpening. I was really suprised how well these stones did the job. I was able to resurrect a old chisel. Now I'm working on the others. Great sharpening system and the price is right.

I bought this on clearance a while back mainly for the fine Arkansas stone, but I now use it on 90% of my sharpening. I have a couple really nice Norton's, but this is such a slick system my Norton's are collecting dust.

The instructions accompanying the stones indicate it's primary purpose is to sharpen knives. I use mine to sharpen my chisles and planes, but, in order to maintain strict control of the item being sharpened, I built a box with the top being a platform with the stones level with the platform surface ( made from countertop).This way my chisel stays flat on the stones. I get excellent results, nice hone for a novice.

Did not purchase but received as christmas or birthday gift from my crew at work several years ago. It worked great when I got it and only used it for pocket knives and it continues to work on my new set of chisels. Excellent product. Would have rated it a five but the little plastic angle device leaves some room for improvement.

I found the three stone sharpener stones to be rounded, making a good edge is hard to accomplish when trying to sharpen chisels. In my opinion this is one of the worst products I have ever purchased.

The system works quite well. However, my plane irons are wider than the stones.
