  • Combination Waterstones: For preliminary sharpening where chips exist or bevel angle need to be changed, use the 250/100 waterstone. To remove smaller nicks and do a finish sharpening of woodworking chisels and other tools, the 800/4000 combination is the best choice. Finally, use the 1000/6000 waterstone for creating a polished edge. As shown in the photo on the left.
  • Extremely tough man made abrasive material. These stones cut faster than oilstones. Stones must be soaked in water prior to use and kept wet with water during use. Waterstones develop a slurry to speed the honing process.
  • 20549 - 250/1000 Combination Grit Waterstone: 7-1/4" (L) x 1" (thick) x 2-1/4" (W)
  • 20542 - 800/4000 Combination Grit Waterstone: 7-1/4" (L) x 1" (thick) x 2-1/4" (W)
  • 47506 - 1000/6000 Combination Grit Waterstone: 8-1/8" (L) x 1" (thick) x 2-1/16" (W)
  • 47522 - Nagura Stone: 3" (L) x 1" (thick) x 7/8" (W)
  • Nagura Stone: Forms a paste on finer grit Waterstones to speed and enhance polishing. Use with the 6000 grit stone.
  • These stones can be reflattened after sharpening wears the surface by wet sanding the stone on a flat surface with silicone carbide wet - dry abrasive sheet.
  • Waterstone Holder: For non-slip sharpening. The arms are made from chrome plated steel that resists rusting. Holder handles stones 7 to 9'' long.

I have an 800/4000 that I got in a Rockler starter kit with a 6000 that works wonderfully. I got the 250/1000 for taking out nicks, the stone works really well but is only 2" wide(unlike the kit 2 1/2") making it hard to hone plane blades easily.

I received my 250/1000 combination wet stone last week. Right away I set out sharpening 3 hand planes and four chisels that were in bad need of sharpening. I was able to get out all of the nicks and put a decent edge on them. Now I just need to get a harder stone to hone them. The 1000 side did seem a little soft. Tools wanted to gouge or dig in when being sharpened. I had to be real careful while sharpening to avoid that. I wonder how long that side will remain flat. All in all, it worked real fine. I am happy, it did what I wanted.

The 800/4000 combo is too soft. You have to be very careful when moving the knife in the upward motion as it can dig into the stone very easily.

I just tried the 1000/6000 wet stone on a set of Irwin Blue Chip chisels. They claim there not sharpened but feel sharp until you put these stones to them. I have less hair on my lower arm today then I had last week. The 6000 grit polish is the key, you can see yourself in the chisel.
