My Jet Mini-late arrived well-packed and in good condition, the only loss was one of the hard rubber foot pads which was broken off and rattling around in the packaging.
Set-up was a snap and I started turning immediately
This lathe is a little gem, powerful, solid as Gibralter, and vibration-free. I'm very impressed with the quality of the milling as well as the casting. It's also a very attractive tool to have in the shop. Two days after first use I ordered the bed extension that Jet makes for this lathe, which is equally well-designed, and went together easily and accurately. A good set of gouges (from Craftsman) and one of Rockler's really cool magnetic work lamps, and I was makin' the chips fly!
I'd recommend this lathe to woodworkers and artist woodturners of any level of experience. Jet also has a great series of videos on Youtube featuring this lathe that you can watch while you're waiting for the delivery truck to come.
I'm new to Rockler, but if this transaction is typical, they can count on me coming back. I look forward to many years service from this outstanding little machine.

I had always been a bit leery of a product where I had to move the belt to different pulleys to adjust the speed, but I find that it is no problem at all. The lathe works great and I have already turned out several new pens.
I was very impressed with how quickly my new lathe arrived, and although the two are not related, how easy it was to get up and running as well.
Thanks Rockler for a great purchasing experience.

I have been doing wood work for many years. I will retire in 5 years and I know I need to buy all the toys I want before retirement. Read all I could about wood lathes and reviews. Made up my mind that I would try this mini lathe. I didn't want to order online so I drove to Mesquite,Tx to take a look at one. The store is 100 miles from me. When I walked in the store I was amazed at all the things that Rockler stocks. There is nothing like it anywhere close to me. Anyway after getting excellent advice from the employees that know what they are talking about and not a bunch of pimple faced kids I was highly impressed! Before I left the store I had spent over 700 dollars and felt great about the products I bought. Back to the lathe, I bought 2 of the DVD's that Rockler had by the Australian guy, can't recall his name. They were both very good, just wished as a newbie to turning wood he spoke more about speeds and such. I did learn alot from these DVD's. The lathe itself is vibration free and works like a champ. I just wished I had found Rockler many years ago and would love for them to bring a store to my area. I would spend a lot more money if they did. If you have never visited one of their stores you have too! Again I was very impressed by the lathe and the qualityy of the employees knowledge at Rockler.

This is a great lathe in a small affordable package. I always wanted to learn how to turn wood and this has proved to be the perfect purchase. Down the road I will invest into a larger lathe and will not hesitate to buy another Jet one.

Top quality mini lathe. The stand is very stable and is a simple set up. The bed extention lines up quite nicely, increasing the usefulness of the lathe.

This lathe was my Christmas present, opened it after I lugged it in the door. I've been using an Shopsmith as a lathe for 4 years now. This little mini is great! Easy to setup. Smooth and quiet. No vibration at all, not even turning out bowls. I Love it.

I bought my Jet mini lathe in August 2006. I have never done any woodturning before. After about an hour of practicing, I made a gavel from a picture in Wood Magazine. Since then I have made 3 more as gifts. I used to have a full size lathe, but never used it because it scared me. This one is great! It's easy to set up and use. I will be trying bowl turning next!

I bought this lathe in June of 2006. It is very easy to use and set up. I have been able to make some fairly incredible pens, bowls, and short spindles on it. It's so easy to use that my wife and daughter use it to make pens as well. I choose this model over the variable speed model because the VS model can only change from one speed to the next and back. If you want to change through all six speeds you still have to move the belt three times! I can move the belt on this model in about ten seconds so why speed the extra hundred dollars. It's quiet and solid and very well built. I bought the JET stand too. The only problem I've encountered is that turning is very addictive! Now I'm considering a JET dust collector to keep the pile of sawdust from getting any bigger. This is a great lathe for the beginner/intermediate turner and home hobbyist.

Build: I had been on the market for a lathe for about 3 months and had narrowed my options to this lathe and the Rikon mini. I knew I had to choose a tool that would be durable, but still fit in my small shop. The Jet is just built solidly. Everything is made out of metal and it is as sturdy as a rock. The other lathe has some plastic components.
Ease of use: Since this is my first lathe, it ablsolutely needed to be as ready to use out of the box as possible. I am not stretching the truth when I tell you that I was rounding out my first project within 30 minutes of purchase.
Cons: The not so obvious con is that when the band finally goes, I may have to do some monor surgery on my lathe to replace it. But, I don't anticipate this happening anytime soon.
Overall: It is solidly built, easy to use and has already provided me with more hours of enjoyment that it is worth...I highly recommend this tool. It is well worth the money.

This lathe cannot be beat for the price. Machine work and finish is very good. Motor has plenty of power for small and medium projects and vibration is not existent. The box arrived looking like UPS had dragged it behind the truck, which is the usual. The tailshaft spindle was bent, but was easily straightened out.

It's a minature of the big jet lathes I have used plus indexing and some other stuff I may never use such as the through the spur hole for ? pens and pencils / boring?
It's heavy and solidly built and perfect for my smaller items, plenty of power too. Gear changes are easy. I would prefer the emergency off switch on the left, for quicker access , but that might be nit picking. I would certainly buy it again, a real bargain and high value item.
