Desert Ironwood Turning Blanks

From the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, desert ironwood, also known as Arizona ironwood, is a rare and highly sought after species. Extreme density and vibrant reddish and brown colors make this wood a preferred choice of carvers and turners alike. The wood is so dense it actually sinks in water. Blanks are available in a variety of sizes.

1) Submitted by Patrick, from Toledo, OH on 9/11/2012 Customer Rating: I had bought a 2x2x6 blank on sale 2 years ago and just let it sit. The wood didn't look like much until I cut into it with my carbide tipped band saw. What had been a muddy brown lump suddenly revealed the rich golds , chocolate, and black hues of really, really nice desert ironwood. The wood is workable with sharp hand tools and scrapers, and polishes to an incredible finish. I haven't tried turning it, but imagine it to be an excellent turning wood.
