I did like using this jig for the decking however, it did take a lot of extra time to fasten the cedar boards. This was due mostly to positioning the jig and then drilling the pilot with one drill, placing the screw, and then driving the screw home with another drill. Does take a little longer but I believe it is worth it in the end. I also used some of the screws to attach the 2 1/4" trim on the deck sides. The screws remind me of finish nails, only with screw holding capabilities.

Used this to build out a small L-Shaped deck using Trex. It worked great! You just have to be careful no to let the Jig itslef lift up as you pilot hole will be a bit higher than it should be. Other than that I loved using this tool, it makes working by yourself so much eaiser.

I just finished my 20 x 10 deck and I am planning a new 16 x 16 add-on section. If you want blind fasteners this system is considerably less expensive, even if you are using stainless, which I did. Plan on using two drills, one for the drill bit and one for the driver, and the driver requires a torque setting so you don't strip the threads in the decking (My Craftsman 1/2" driver drill that comes in the two drill set needed a setting of 13). To do face fastening, drill a dowel down the center and then carefully cut it to length, then slip it over the drill bit to use as a depth stop.
Kreg's product support is excellent, they shipped some jigs with drill bits that broke easily, but just a phone call and I got a free replacement, and even a human answered the phone!

What a little ripper..!!! Just did my 5 metre by 4 metre decking using Aussie hardwood which is tough and tends to curve and cup until nailed screwed down. The Kreg worked wonderfully....another winner from Kreg.

Was going to use on my deck only to find out that holding power is nil, splintering when installing the screws. For me it is a waste of money. I love the pocket jig but this deck gig needs to go back to the drawing board.

Good product but I am wondering is whether it is possible to reduce the spacing between the plates as 1/4 " to 5/16" seems to me much too wide and the more the shrinkage due to drying if it is no composite materials. It would amend the guide while keeping the screws not apparent and bring a 1/8 "and 3/16" between the boards would be more acceptable.
