I have used the Soss hinges on several pieces and am very impressed with the quality. If you are looking for a completely hidden hinge, I don't think there is a better option. I know some have an issue with the installation jig, but I make a very quick 1/4" MDF template and use a Forstner bit and clean up the remainder with a good sharp chisel. It only takes me about 15 minutes per hinge mortise and if you are careful, the results are every bit as good as using a router jig. Most of my future pieces of furniture will incorporate Soss hinges.

These hinges are a work of art, they are fantastic in every way except for the jig used to mortise the holes they sit in. (See my separate review of the jig). They do require about $100 in tooling to get setup for but once installed they definitely show they are a engineering marvel. Its too bad SOSS did not put the same engineering into there router jig because this is the only week link in this hinge system. My recommendation is to purchase the jig and use it as a template to build your own, this is not a weakness of the hinges themselves but since these hinges require a somewhat precise dual depth mortise one should really look at this as a whole system. Long story short; Love the hinges, hate the jig.

I bought these hinges for the fold-up top on a coffee table. I didn't need hidden hinges for this project, but I wanted to evaluate them for a drop-leaf table that I plan to build. I think they are great. Using the jig (separate purchase)it is quite easy to route the recess precisely. The jig is over-priced, but it does work well(see my separate rating of that item). I will definitely use these on my drop-leaf table, especially since I already have the jig.

These hinges are great. Very easy to install with the router jig, which stinks by the way. The hinges operate flawlessly and hide away real nice. The hinges only allow a 1/32" door space though.

Here again the template is not the best. They are a great hinge, I made up a template for that as well as the soft down stay.

Used these hinges to make a folding dancing board for a friend who is a member of a clogging troupe ('mountain tap dance').
needed a hinge that would not show up on the dancing surface or hit the floor beneath -the board is 3/4inch birch plywood for both protection of the underlying surface (or, in the case of a slab, protection of the dancer's knees and feet) and to create more volume by lifting the dance surface up (about 2-1/2 inches in this case).
tried barrel hinges - too lightweight - the medium soss hinges seem about right and were easy to install.
