As stated, they are to support cabinets. If someone wants to use it in the truck bed there is different lengths available. I own 3 sets of them and they are excellent.

I own a Toyota Tundra pick-up and when I saw the photo, I thought that these would be perfect to have and use them as shown in the photo. I saw that they extend out to 60", but I measured my pick-up bed and the shortest distance between the bed sides is 66" and thats about 6" off of the floor of the bed. To use it and the right height, like in the photo, it's 70" between the bed sides of the truck. That's a full 10" short of what these will extend out to. These might be fine for a small pick-up, but they won't work as is on full size pick-up trucks. I will make some spacer blocks to go on both ends so that I can use them in my truck. I'll let you know how that works out.

I bought two several years ago for a kitchen job and ended up using one, once! also bought the crown molding attachment used it on a second kitchen job. They have major and minor adjustments - major sets spring pin at 9 1/2" intervals, and the minor friction pistol grip raises or lowers nicely within that limit. Once set they are extremely sturdy but a the major spring pin settings are quite difficult & awkward to set with the pin inside the tube aiming for the new position if you have to change cabinet heights up and down. b setting them up under a load takes two ore more people to get the load up and supported anyway, so the value is greatly diminished. If however, you have repetitive supports needed for the same height, they are more useful. I'm trying to find a good home for mine. I would question the applicability of truck bed use due to the rust issue.

The Upper Hand and Fastcap's 3rd Hand seem to be the same product. I own multiples of both sizes of the 3rd Hand and they have proven to be indispensable to me. I have used them to hold up crown molding both wood and plaster, upper cabinets, fluorescent light fixtures, etc. I have also used them to apply pressure to wall coverings while the glue is drying, and, yes, to stabilize cargo in both vans and pickups. Very handy! As far as the other comment on using this particular model in full-sized pickups, Rod is correct that it won't fit. Maybe the picture is misleading, but, they cover the length in the description. It may be too late for Rod, however, rather than use spacers, order the 3rd hand model that fits- http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=10596
