I built a blanket chest for my daughter and it was made out of 3/4 stock so the lid weighs 14.75 pounds. This could make for very sore fingers it it closed uncontrolled. The online calculator said I would need a 40 pound hinge and two 60 pound hinges. I am totally satisfied with the way the lid stays in any position and will not under any circumstances fall and trap small fingers

Two 60# and one 40# hinge in the middle support a 48" x 22" lid of 3/4" plywood quite well on a large toy chest made for my five year old grand-daughter's stuffed animals!Lid is easy for her to open and close and stays fixed in any position.

I built a window seat and wanted some hinges that wouldn't be visible and would also allow the lid to stay open without a catch or having to hold it. I got two 40-lb hinges and they work perfectly. Definitely would suggest these to anybody.

Great product for a safe, toy box lid. It does what it is supposed to do, similar to a laptop lid. I did have to reorder one heavier hinge, as I under estimated the lid weight with upolstery and padding included. The ordering process was very easy and was received quickly with regular shipping.

I purchased these hinges because I don't like the alternatives that are available for toy box hinges. The fact that I don't need a lid stay or those ugly spring type hinges really appealed to me. Not having the full dimensions of the lid, I over estimated on what hinges I'd need and went with 2 60 in/pound hinges with the thought that I'd rather over estimate then get hinges that aren't strong enough. I'm glad I did. These hinges hold the lid great and move easily. I'd recommend these hinges to anyone making a toy box or even a blanket chest.

Hinges work great, and operate as advertised! Very versatile as they can work with a flush lid or an overhang. The jig makes the installation easy in a matter of seconds. I love the fact I do not need another brace to keep the lid up, leaving the inside very clean and not cluttered up. I used this on a bench with storage under the top. There is no question I will be using these again!

Rockler was the only place I could find this hinge. I placed them on a toy box for my granddaughter (of 20 months). Now I can relax knowing that her fingers will not get smashed. By the way she loves her toy box. Thanks Rockler.

I have built an oversize toy box/hope chest for my neighbors little daughter, I had to use (3) 60 inch pound hinges. These are the best hinges on the market. The lid stays open without slamming down on her little fingers.

Great product. Easy to install and works just like the hinge on a laptop computer. Only time will tell about its durability. Pricey, but probably comparable to the combination of other hardware needed to achieve the same results. Worth the little bit extra for the ease of installation and the minimal, clean look.

Yes, as the other reviews say, these are good. I used 2 - 60lb hinges and holds the lid at 45 angle. The lid is 2ft by 3ft of 3/4 plywood with 3/4 in Oak edge. I will buy these for again.

I recommend these hinges. However, there are two issues you need to think about before using them. First, unless you want the back of your chest top to be higher than the front, you will need to mortise into the back of the chest for the hinges. By doing this your top will lay flat on the chest. Secondly, installing three hinges (as I had to do) complicates things so plan carefully! I had to install three hinges AND mortise the back for each hinge. Sounds easy but to get everything done correctly you have to be careful.

These hinges are the perfect solution for any lid that requires the safety of controlled closing. My application is a toy box for my granddaughter. The box is relatively large (16"X32"X16") and heavy - crafted of solid walnut with curly maple trim - so I needed something other than the traditional lid stay. The appearance and finish of the hinges are excellent and installation is more than easy.

I like these hinges a lot. My application is a toy box for my grandson. My own fault I ordered 2 40lb hinges that failed. Returned those for a pair of 60lb which still didn't work totally. Ordered one more 60lb and with 3 installed, works great. I say my own fault as I had no way to weigh the lid, which is large at 24" x 37", so my guessing the weight was the reason for the wrong hinge order. Very satisfied with the finish and use of these hinges.

This will be the third set of these hinges I have purchased and yes they are more expensive than most hinges , but you get what you pay for and if you put together a chest that will be around for years the hinges will hold up very well. I would recommend these for any project and will bye many more in the future. Rockler has given me excellent service when ever I have placed an order and will buy from them in many more years to come .

I've made quite a few toyboxes for grandkids, friend's kids, etc., etc. FINALLY someone has come out with the BEST product for that application. No more piano hinges and two separate lid supports (which I never found that easy to install.) With my luck, now that this product is available, I'll run out of kids to build toyboxes for! This is a GREAT product!!
