Developed by a Woodworker for Woodworkers! Ideal for the hobbyist or professional who doesn't want to invest the time or money to learn complicated CAD programs. SketchList 3D Version 3 makes it easy to create detailed visualizations and accurate designs, even for users without any previous computer design experience.

The Hobby Version is furniture design software that you can use to create 3D models of your woodworking projects. It is the same as the Professional version in terms of concept: working with 3D virtual boards, built in woodworking functions, and ease of use. However this version has been scaled back to fit into the budget of the hobby woodworkers.

The Professional Version is an advanced woodworking design software package. Produce better looking proposals, more detailed shaping of board edges, better looking 3D renderings, detailed shop reports, drawings, and material layouts.
  • Allows you to compete more effectively
  • Involve prospects with proposal preparation
  • Take hours off your proposal preparation time
  • Increase the professionalism of your proposals and bids
  • Automatically generate parts lists, cutting layouts, purchase lists, and drawings
  • Reduce mistakes and minimize material waste

LOVE IT! For a couple of years I had been searching for a program that would allow me to create custom mantel designs and produce professional looking drawings for our customers to approve before beginning production. I tried a few cad type programs which left me feeling frustrated and intimidated. Then I came across Sketchlist. Within hours I had designed a mantel and emailed the design to my customer. In the past 30 days, I've created a dozen custom mantels, 2 architectural columns, and a custom staircase newel post not to mention a few honey-do projects that I hope to slip into my husbands schedule. My customers have appreciated being able to see, photo-realistically, what their finished piece will look like and the materials cut list spreadsheets have been a huge bonus and cut production time considerably. The investment paid for its self within hours, my only regret is that I didn't find Sketchlist sooner.

I looked for years for a design woodworking software program that would easily capture a design and enable modifications. I tried Autocad, Designcad, and Sketchup. All of these programs are very complicated, expensive, and carry a huge learning curve. Sketchlist has captured the best of these programs from a woodworker's perspective, and it is easy to input dimensions and make adjustments as needed. Whether it is a simple box design or the molding that surrounds it, Sketchlist makes it easy. Most commercial design programs use draw and then add dimensions. By inputting dimensions first, I am able to make small adjustments and to see the changes in 3D immediately. This made it easy to examine the proportions of the overall project and to take corrective action where necessary. The spreadsheets enabled me to accurately estimate the amounts of wood necessary to complete a project and to price out different options. The program enabled me to see where errors were about to occur thus avoiding costly mistakes. The ability to rotate a project and to examine it from all angles is outstanding. If I ran into any difficulties, I picked up the phone to Sketchlist and I received personal service almost immediately. No waiting and having to dial different options to reach someone who knows how to help you. Sketchlist also has many online videos which demonstrate the techniques used to design a project. This greatly shortens any learning curve needed while using Sketchlist. Attached is a photo of a wall cabinet that was designed and built using Sketchlist. Sketchlist is fantastic and I would give it a rating of 10 stars on a 5-star scale. Sketchlist is the first step I take in woodworking when developing a new project.

I am writing to tell you about my experience with SketchList 3D. I was a hobbyist woodworker with aspirations of becoming a part-time professional, since then I have actually become a full-time custom cabinetmaker that builds 15-20 kitchens per year, plus vanities, fireplace mantles and furniture.

My main purpose for using this software is to improve my shops production time, reduce errors and to give me a chance to “build it” before I even step into the shop. However, there’s another benefit, customers are always impressed when I bring my laptop out and show them what I created for them in a 3D picture!

My original intention was to find a single program that was more user friendly than Google SketchUp, didn’t cost as much as commercial cabinet software and had integrated reports like a cut list, materials list and dimensioned drawings in one package without breaking the proverbial “piggy bank”. What I found was a unique program built specifically for woodworkers that actually follows the same process I used when I was hand drafting and then fine tuning my plans in the shop, except no more erasing and recalculating all the dimensions. The ease of use is incredible right from the first few times I started to use it. I estimate that I probably spent about 15 hours getting up to speed and with version 3 I find it even easier to use.

I have worked on large corporate software projects and have never experienced very good responsiveness. This developer is different in that he always invites feedback, encourages users to contact him directly for any problems and then he actually follows up! In fact, just last week I asked for help on building an octagon display cabinet and a floating bathroom vanity that had to be positioned on three angled walls. The developer figured out exactly how to do them and sent me files of the finished plans. He even posted a training video on his website showing others how to do it!

Needless to say, I’m extremely happy with this software and would recommend it to anyone looking for an easy to learn and use, high powered program at a reasonable price.

This program is fantastic. For years I looked for a program to help me design woodwork projects. I am a DIY person, not a professional. Lacking formal training in carpentry, I found designing to be difficult but I believe it is essential to a satisfactory project and is a factor too often neglected. I was fed up with scribblers, used envelopes, and broken pencils. And all the arithmetic. And the tedious redrawing. But I didn’t want to go to college to learn CAD. Now, after relatively little time learning the program, I’m designing and building projects in several different locations in my home, sometimes quickly ‘sketching’ up two or three versions to help me settle on what I want. If I get stuck, I write for help. Support is quick to arrive. In addition, I’m learning a lot about building techniques. I am promoting this product to everyone I talk to. Thanks, SketchList!

I have been using Sketchlist for many years and I can honestly tell you it is an excellent software product that has excellent customer support. Without a doubt, every woodworker should be using it. It is extremely easy to use and has saved me countless hours and dollars in building my projects.

One project I designed and built was an entertainment center out of cherry. Sketchlist was invaluable throughout the entire process. Because of the cost of the cherry, I could not afford to make any mistakes in the workshop. If I was going to make any mistakes, I would rather make them, and then easily correct them, in the software versus the workshop. After I was done designing, Sketchlist provided parts and cut lists that made the job a lot easier.

Sketchlist has many, many features that make designing a project easy, from cloning, to stretching, to shrinking, to mirroring, to 3D. I especially like the 3D feature which allows you to rotate and zoom into your project and view it from all angles. This feature is invaluable…you can show your customer or whomever you are making the project for a rendering of what it will look like, giving them the opportunity to make changes prior to starting a project. You can even zoom into the project to see inside. For example, I could zoom into the entertainment center to see the drawers behind the doors or to verify that the dados for the shelves were placed properly. I have been a CPA for over 30 years, so needless to say, I am very anal about details. I know I have pushed the software to it limits and it has handled everything that I could throw at it.

Bottom line….if you are serious about woodworking and want to make your hobby or profession easier and more profitable, do not hesitate to buy the software.

"Have been a return customer for a number of years, and a recent experience has really cemented that bond for me. After using my Rockler lighted magnifying lens for a few months, one of the wires from the battery pack came loose. When I contacted Customer Service to inquire about sending the unit back, they instead sent me a brand new one - no questions asked, no return expected, no charge whatsoever. This simple step - coupled with top quality, innovative products - ensured my repeat business more than any other advertising technique or gimmick could ever do. Keep up the good work, Rockler!"
