Coffee Mill Plan

• Cast iron wheel mechanism has plastic gears in top section and includes small metal knob for base.
• Oak coffee mill well kit includes all the precut pieces you'll need to make this project.

The small drawer knob referred to in the instructions for the kit is now metal and included with the mechanism.

Please Note:
Mechanisms are functional but intended for decorative use. A small amount of iron shavings may occur in the initial grinding process. These will decrease with use. To minimize the amount of shavings grind a first batch of beans on finest grind, discard grounds, then wash and dry the mechanism thoroughly before use. Paper filters are recommended when brewing.

Fun project! Make it fancy, make it simple. I made mine with from scrape Cherry and Poplar. It's very simple but still an eye catcher. I finished the inside with Walnut oil, but only enough to seal the pores. As Mr. Collett said, let the coffee oils do the rest. Not much else to say. Just a nice piece for times when you feel like building something but don't want a major project.

Fun project, skill level - learning to make joints and corners. Given plan was a guide, however, scrap walnut wood determined the design and size 6"x5-1/2". Door knob did not seem secure, so, purchased one similar to photo at hardware store. Grinder works, if you have patience. Will make another unit as a gift and will not stain or finish the inside of the box due to urethane smell. Will let coffee oils do that. Consider the project ornamental, unless the power goes out.

I was excited to get my "cast iron" coffee grinder, when I received it and began to assemble the machine I was highly disappointed with the plastic gears. The most important components that do the work are made of the cheapest material. The gears could have least been made of steel ensure the machine will work properly longer. I do not know how you can advertise a product as cast iron and then have the most important parts be made of plastic.

Was a nice unit to build, gave it to my wife last Christmas. Only problem I had was with the spring. I changed up the cabinet using box joints and a drawer that went into the box rather than sitting on the face of the box, thought it looked better. Good luck enjoy.
