I expected a really great product from Starrett... but what I got was probably a good level with sloppy craftsmanship at an OK price. The finish has some smears and the level vials have dirt in them. The level appears to show level... which is what is essential... but this is not the heirloom I will pass on to future generations.

Not the Starrett quality  I expected. I purchased both 24" & 48" versions! The 48" level had a good finish, while the wood and finish workmanship of the 24" level was poor. Cheap end caps are stapled on. Bottom Line - Accuracy of the levels are very good, but do not represent the lifetime quality expected.

Really expected more from the Starrett name. These are cheap lightweight levels.

This level is totally acceptable. It would be unrealistic to expect high-end Starrett quality for that price, so one has to live with the imperfections that others have commented on the vials on mine don't have dirt in them, though. Given the price and proper expectations, this level is a good purchase.
