Imagine a workshop so clean and organized that you can find your tools with a blindfold on, and tell in an instant if one is missing. With FastCap's Kaizen Foam, it's no longer a figment of your imagination. Just open a drawer to reveal all of your tools exactly the way you organized them, the cutting edges still pristinely sharp. Unlike other versions of tool storage foam, Kaizen foam is layered so you can peel out layers until you reach the desired depth. This means the foam will still have a firm backing once the tools recesses are cut out, and you won't have those annoying floating islands where, say, the middle of a hacksaw was. If you cut the recesses nice and snug, you can even mount the entire panel on the wall. Cut it to size in seconds with a table saw. Sold in two thicknesses: 1-1/8'' and 2-1/4'', each 2'W x 4'L.

Technical Details:
  • FastCap Kaizen Foam is constructed of many layers of 1/8'' thick foam.
  • Simply trace around the tool with a marker, cut out the outline, and peel off the layers as you would an orange peel until you reach the desired depth.
  • Easily cut to size with a table saw and/or chop saw to fit your drawers or any other space.
  • Works much like wood.
  • For an easy way to create finger recesses, simply heat a small piece of copper pipe and touch it to the foam—the foam melts away, leaving a perfect semi-circular recess.
  • Perfect for router bit storage—just drill holes into the foam.

Wow. Almost funner than working with wood, and best of all, no more nicks on my freshly-honed chisels and no cringe-worthy clattering every time I open my tool box drawer. The foam really allows you to optimize space, and get a lot of storage out of a little area. I see that I still even have some free space up in the top right corner. Maybe I'll set in my marking knife there.

Perhaps most impressive was how easy it was to cut the foam. I used an ordinary utility knife with a fresh blade, and man...I was cutting full depth and it felt like a hot knife through butter. And turning corners was so easy. I was able to cut the entire chisel profile without ever removing the knife, except for the two 90 degree corners at the chisel tip.

Peeling out the layers was also very easy, just dig your fingers in and scrape it out to whatever depth you want. The nice thing is that you can vary the depth to the profile of the tool. I wanted the handles to sit deeper so the drawer could close, but the blades to sit more shallow for easy removal. No problem whatsoever doing that. Five stars and two thumbs up!

The key to peeling the cutout is to keep scooping your fingers under cutout as your are separating the layer from the base. For a perfect finish, you can filet the top 1/8" layer of the cutout and place in back into the divot that you just created.

I love this stuff! Very easy to cut out and organize my drawer. It isn't a junk drawer anymore and I always know when something is missing. As you can tell, I love FastCap,  they keep coming out with such innovative products... what will they come out with next?!

I purchased 2 sheets of the Kaizen foam. The layers would not peel apart no matter how much digging and lifing I did. Luckily I was able to use the foam by cutting completely thru one sheet and using the other sheet as the base sheet.

Basically a nice foam that is easy to cut. But I was very disapointed because you can't peel it off in layers like advertised. It comes off in chunks because the adhesive bonding the layers is too strong and does not allow the layers to peel off at all. I used a router to cut out the waste and it worked OK.
