If all you want is an inexpensive guitar then skip the kit and buy a finished guitar. But if you want to gain hands-on experience finishing and setting up a guitar then this is a good starter kit. The neck fit was perfect and the flamed maple was better than I expected. The veneer is very thin so be careful that you do not sand through it. The instructions were not sufficient and the wiring diagram was incorrect, but there are many references on the internet. Research before you start assembly. I used aniline dyes for the sunburst and a high quality guitar lacquer for the finish. I found lacquer to be easier to work with than polyurethane.

I am a woodworker and have made a lot of items from scratch but this was one of the most difficult projects that I have undertaken. Mostly, there is a lack of instructions. I suppose the kit makers think that buyers of this kit have prior experience with making electric guitars. What little instructions that were printed left most of the assembly to guess work. There were no diagrams to aid in the assembly. The only diagram that was printed was for the wiring and it was incorrect. I had to go to another web site to get a correct wiring diagram. The wood used for this guitar was by far the worst that I have ever tried to finish. Would not take stain evenly and came out blotchy. I sanded the first finish off and applied a second finish with only slightly better results. Overall the price was too much to pay for such a poor result.
