The Shark HD 2.0 CNC Machine features enhanced electronics
for smoother movement, more power and 50% more speed to
the motors. The HD 2.0 is built to handle larger sized
routers such as the Porter Cable 890 series.
To accommodate the greater torque levels, it features
adjustable bearings to give more stability during heavy
cutting. With a table measuring 28-1/2'' x 36'', it is
ideally suited for carvings and machining operations on a
large variety of signs, doors and other projects made from
wood, soft metals or plastics. It boasts impressive power,
speed, accuracy, and ease of use. Its aluminum and high-
density polyethylene construction is designed for heavy
use.

Customer Rating:
I have had this system going for a couple weeks now and have made a couple easy items to start with. One does NOT have to be a machinist or computer geek to create carving projects. The Vetric program, VcarvPro 6.5, that comes with this system is a strong program that will create whatever your imagination can come up with. Vetric also has free download projects to help get started and to understand how to use them the online videos are great. I did have an issue with the Z motor connector to the drive screw. Rockler and Next Wave Automation, manufacturing company were great in resolving the issue. Not even a sour note on my part! Go figure! out of a million screws I get the short one! Would I buy it again? Yes!

Customer Rating:
1. This unit is heavy. I was able to assemble it completely on my own but a second hand would have been nice. I have a custom made bench for it as you can see in the pictures. The bed weighs over 60 lbs itself and was quite the challenge to get it up the without using the table itself as a lifting point, but as you can see it can be done. The gantry weighs about 35 lbs but it very awkward to move easily. I was worried about damaging it and the mounts so my solution was to lay down a thick piece of cardboard on the table. I then took a small aluminum 2 ton car jack and placed it on the bed. I moved the gantry motor carriage to the middle to set the side to side balance evenly. I then raised the jack up to its full height and rested the motor mount of the gantry on the jacks high point. I then centered the gantry mounts and slowly lowered the gantry into place. 12 bolts later it was done. 2. With windows XP you need to follow the download instructions in the very vague and almost pointless manual and then also use the wndows control panel to search for new hardware and install it automatically as well. That will correct the missing .dll file problem. 3. This next point is so very important that it should be included in the manual. You must must must go through the WHOLE shark, yes It means removing the table, and re-tighten every last nut, bolt, and screw on the machine. I thought I would be ok and ran my first circle test cut and got a very nice, clean cut D shape instead of a 3.5" circle. I added lock-tite to the 9 screws on the lead screws that are threaded straight into plastic and to the motor coupling set screws. This was half to blame for the out of round-ness of my test cut. In total I had 29 pieces that were what I would consider unacceptably loose. The rest of the blame goes to... 4. There was an unusual amount of backlash in my Y-axis. About .05" worth which is not good in terms of accurate cuts. The culprit was the motor bearing. I tried loosening the coupler and pushing the lead screw in more but due to the flat on the lead screw also having an anti-backout feature it would not allow me to back it out far enough. My solution was to loosen all four of the motor mount nuts and bolts and then remove them one at a time a place a .05" mountain bike disk brake spacer in between the motor body and the outside of the shark chassis. This essentially removed the backlash by drawing the motor further away from the lead screw removing the play. 5. The router fit is very very tight in the lower part of the mount. I had to use fine sand paper to carefully open it up. Then I was able to coerce the router all the way down. The lock ring must be as tight as you can possibly get it. Mine was some what tight on my first cut and the router backed out to make a nice air cut for the last 50% of the tool path. 6. Hold downs- The Rockler deluxe hold downs are very nice and easy to use. Make sure you get a second set as you really should use 4 at all times just to be safe. It would be nice if the hold downs came with a couple other length t-bolts. I was nervous with the dust shoe on the first cut. They should include a few shorter lengths to keep the shoe from hitting them on thin work pieces. When you clamp them down- if you can make sure you use the middle slots on the rails as I have noticed that if I use the outer slots on the individual rails the ten to lift up when you really tighten them down. 7. There needs to be a way to set x,y, and z axis limits in the software. Almost like a integrated limit switch into the software. If you do a pocketing cut and then go to do a tool change and accidentally jog the x,y or z past its limit, it screws the whole zeroing up and then its a huge pain in the ass to reset it correctly. Will all this said and done... The Shark HD is now running like a champ. I am in awe watching this thing run.
