Steel Threaded Inserts

These steel threaded inserts can be used anywhere you want the strength and easy assembly of a bolted connection with a wooden joint. Simply bore a hole, drive in the threaded insert, and use a bolt of the appropriate length to secure the adjoining member in place. Perfect for eliminating stripping and pull-out problems in knockdown furniture. See below for individual sizes. Size listed below is the size of the bolt (sold separately) that threads into the insert. Sold in packs of 8.

Technical Details: Can be installed with screwdriver, threaded insert wrench or threaded insert power drive tool. Rugged steel construction. Can be used for wood/wood joints, or wood/non-wood joints. 5) Submitted by Doug Keener, from Las Vegas, NV on 8/2/2008 Customer Rating: I am building a computer desk with pull out drawers for the CPU, printers etc. Over time and equipment replacement the sizes of these components change. To make the drawer slides easy to adjust for height I plunged 1/4 inch holes like you would for shelf pins. Then I inserted the threaded inserts into the holes. I positioned the holes to align with the slide mounting holes. Now it is very easy to make height adjustments without the need to redrill mounting holes which can be very difficult in a narrow compartment. Before asembly of the project, I used an 8-32 screw with a thread insert and jam nut in a reversible drill to prethread each plunged hole. This way I don't need to put a threaded insert into each available hole. It's now easy to remove the insert and move to the next hole when needed. The project is in construction at present.

6) Submitted by John Queck, from Coon Rapids, MN on 4/6/2006 I am using these inserts inside of knobs to be used for quilt hangers. The ones that get installed correctly work very well. The problem we have is not the inserts, but difficulty in finding knobs with a large enough circumference to hold an insert that takes a hole 15/32" diameter for a 1/4"-20 insert. It would be nice to have something that would hold a #10-24 instead of dropping all the way down to a #8-32. Like I said though, the inserts work great and I use them in jigs and fixtures that are repeatedly assembled and disassembled. I teach in a Tech Ed lab in a middle school and the jigs stay together and the kids are able to assemble them over and over. Editor's note: For larger wood knobs for such a project we suggest our face grain knobs #'s 61701, 61710 or 61719.

7) Submitted by Manfred Klein, from Monroe, MI on 5/3/2011 Customer Rating: I bought both the 1/4-20 and 5/16-18 inserts to attach the head- and foot-boards to the base of a platform bed. After reading comments regarding installation from another reviewer, I decided to use the bolt-and-double-nut method to install them. It was easy to do and worked perfectly! No damaged inserts. I expect to be using these again in the future.
