Calculating the Number and Rating of Lid Supports
Use the following formula to determine the optimal number and rating of lid supports:
Lid width (front to back) x lid weight in pounds / 2 = Inch-lbs. of support required.
Example, using an 18'' wide lid weighing 12 lbs: (18 x 12)/2 = 108. Therefore, either two 45-55 or one 95-125 Inch-lbs support would be an appropriate choice.
What’s in the Box?
One left-side, right-side or center-mount lid support with mounting screws

These work great. Probably one of the bet values on this website. Plus it has USA stamped on it.

The recent purchase was the third one. The hinges have been used on toy boxes that I have built for my grand children. These hinges protect little fingers!

My wife has had a Lane hope chest for many years. It's always had just one support. The hinge opposite of the support broke from the lid. I bought 2 of these supports and installed one on each side. The lid weighs about 23 lbs. Ordered the heaviest ones. They work great. I think her hope chest will last her another long while.

I used one of these hinges along with standard hinges on a toy box for my great grandaughter. The hinge works great. No pinched fingers.

These lid supports worked surprisingly well. The were easy to install and the lid stays put at any position. Be sure to order the correct weight size. I calculated per the on-line instructions then bought a left and right support each rated at about 1/2 the total calculated inch/lbs. Perfect! If your back wall is other than 3/4" thick, they WILL NOT WORK, on a 1" back wall, for example. I checked other brands and they all have the same limitation on back wall thickness. Rockler's more expensive than the others, but I got quick delivery and am totally satisfied with the product. Matching screws are included but are not included with some of the competitor's supports.
