These are brass plated steel loops, not solid brass. They are stamped and are a bit uneven around the edges. Because they are plated and not solid brass, one cannot clean them up with filing, so they are what they are. They are not expensive and thus, not a bad bargain at all, but given the work that I put into the wood box, I would happily have spent 2-4x more money for a better product. Also, the loops are a bit wide for the leather straps that are sold separately to compliment them. A wider strap or narrower loop would be better. Slotted brass screws would look much classier than Philips heads. But they can be replaced of course.
