Ah, scrapers. I bear no more love for sanding, I imagine, than any other woodworker! it's a necessary chore, but tedious, dusty and frequently noisy. Did I mention that it's tedious and dusty? Scrapers eliminate 90% of that. Yes, you read right, 90%. Scrapers cut much faster than any sandpaper, but leave a very fine, tearout free surface on hardwoods. I haven't needed to buy a sheet of sandpaper coarser than #220 in nearly ten years, except for turning jobs on the lathe! Once you learn how to sharpen a scraper properly, you'll be producing fluffy shavings in no time, and wondering why you never tried this sooner. (I recommend learning to do sharpen a scraper freehand: it's not really so demanding that you would need a fancy jig, and if you do it wrong, it's no great loss, just re-file the edge again) This 3-piece set from Crown Tools of Sheffield, England offers a great deal of flexibility, with up to six straight cutting edges and a few curves for the tricky places too. The steel is of good quality, and thicker than the Bahco scraper (they're stiffer, but won't burn your fingers as easily}. My only gripe {and the reason I only rate them at four stars) is that the scrapers are punched out of the sheet, no ground to shape, and so they arrive with one ridiculously aggressive, hooked cutting edge and one that is completely rounded over by the punch press. These need to be filed down past the deformed zone to get a good edge on both faces of each scraper, but that doesn't take long.

Once I learned how to properly sharpen the scrapers, I was amazed at the surface that I could produce with them. It was so good that no sanding was required. This is a great product at a good price.

This is the first project I have finished using scrapers. The difference from sand paper is amazing. I will continue using scrapers on all my projects.

I cannot believe how well this product works. I wish I would have tried them a long time ago. It almost eliminates any sanding and levels off glued boards with a breeze. Wonderful product and will be getting another set for myself and a relative who does a lot of woodworking.

I have never used scrapers before, but after working with wood and building furniture for more than 40 years, I don't know why I didn't sooner. I have only tried the flat scraper, but it worker very well and I am quite pleased with the results out of the box.

Hey!,,,I'm used to doing a lot of home projects, and getting into some funiture making, these scrapers are worth their weight. Easy to use and was amazed at the results. For a beginner I'm sold. Will buy another set. But need to know how to sharpen them.

I've used cabinet scrapers for decades, but misplaced my set in a recent move and ordered a set from you. Before, my old scrapers were soft enough that I could sharpen them, then 'roll a burr' on the working edge with a burnisher, which did the scraping. These were so hard I could not get a burr. They also were so thick and stiff I could not bow them in use, as I have always done before. Gosh, I wish I could find my old ones!

I have used the two rounded scrapers in smoothing out the curved surfaces inside bowls before the final sanding and polishing.
