Hands down the best sander. Beats a random orbital sander all to pieces. Lots of dust but that's what it's for.

I became aquainted with this sander in a visit I made to a fellow woodworking friend, and it caught my attention, until I saw the price.
Since I already had a random orbital sander, I decided not to purchase this one for lack of need, but it never left my mind. Until last Christmas, I decided to give it a try. What outstanding performance! I don't know why didn't I purchased it before! I also got the Norton 3x paper, and it definitively works wonderful with this sander! You really can spend many hours sanding without any tingling in your hand!
Highly recommended!

I've had this sander for more than ten years now, and it is simply the best. Solid. Quality. One just guides it along without the need to put pressure on it and it glide along with no effort. Yes, it is heavier than the others, but once you slide the switch to "on" you'll never be happy with another--it fits your hand perfectly and your work will show the quality as well. To tell you the truth, I can't recall how much it cost me, but after all these years I can still feel the quality and it performs just as it did on the first day I used it.

In forty plus years of woodworking, I've used a lot of finishing sanders. When it came time for a new one, I decided to try the Porter Cable. I was worried a bit about the weight of it, and not happy with the high price relative to other finishing sanders. But having used it for a month now, all I can say is that it is an awesome machine and well worth the money. It's much less tiring to use than lighter weight finishing sanders. First, the weight does the work so all you have to do is guide it, not push it into the work to get results. Second, its vibration damping is superb. Even after a solid hour of sanding I felt no tingling in my hand and was much less tired than with a shorter time with my Makita, Hitachi, or Craftsman sanders.
Pair this with Norton 3x paper and it is an awesome sanding experience. Much better result in much less time. I actually enjoy sanding again!
One warning. Be sure to use a good dust mask and sand either outdoors, as I usually do, or in an area with very good dust collection. This sander with the Norton 3X 180 or 220 paper produces a lot of very fine dust that will do your lungs no good at all.
