Router Safety Tips:
It's easy to prevent mishaps if you take a few simple precautions.

1) Rockler recommends using 1/2'' shank router bits whenever possible. 1/2'' shanks provide better stability with less vibration to produce a smoother cut and longer cutter life.
2) Make multiple light passes rather than one heavy cut.
3) Install your router bit so that 90% of the shank is inside the collet. Here's a rule of thumb: fully insert the bit, then pull it back 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch.
4) Use a router table whenever possible.
5) When using large diameter bits, reduce the RPM of your router. Then test your set-up on scrap lumber.
6) Always follow your router manufacturer's recommendations.

I purchased the 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 HSS to use at work. After using them a few times, I had to order some for myself. These bits work flawlessly. I've used them in oak, padauk and myrtlewood. Worth every penny and then some.

I purchased the 1/2" HSS model and have been completely satisfied. I used the bit to make long mortises in a furniture product. The bit cuts very smooth mortises without even a hint of tear-out.

This bit did what I wanted which was making 7/8" deep, long mortises in a furniture project I am building. Like the 1/2" shank and the long 1-1/4" capacity was just right. Good bit and worth the price.

We in the scenery shop for the Cleveland Play House used this bit in our drill press to create some jigs out of UHMW that will help re-saw 1X6 cedar into 2 @ 3/8 X 6 X 16 sticks. It worked flawlessly. Thanks!
