I made a toy chest for my son but soon realized I made it a bit large for normal lid supports. Afer breaking about 3 I bought at the local hardware store I realized that I needed something a bit more beefy to handle my 24" X 48" X 3/4" lid. Instructions weren't the easiest but it's pretty simple to install them. The only reason I didn't put a 4 star rating is I wish they the tension was a bit stronger to make the closing softer and opening easier. I bought them with the assumption they would be more beefy then they were. That said, I don't see anything else out there that compares. I'll just have to make a smaller box for my children next time....

I have now purchased two sets of these lid supports to toddler proof a couple of blanket chests we have in our house. The lid supports are excellent and easy to install. The instructions that come with them are needlessly cryptic but they are so easy to install you don't really need instructions.

I had planned to use this on a piano bench lid, but had to return it because there wasn't enough room in the piano bench cavity to mount the support, or to accommodate the support in the closed position. The catalogue does not show a diagram of the support in the closed position, and is not clear about how much space is needed.
[EDITOR'S NOTE: For complete mounting information, including space requirements, please refer to the More Info tab, which has dimensions, and also the Tech Info tab below it, which has open and closed diagrams with dimensions.]

I didn't care for the instuctions that came with it. They were not very easy to understand. But once I got the product installed, it worked very well.
