Bought this for a small project, and it worked so well I have since used it to drill hinge holes on 34 doors with not problems. Door were all solid oak and used carbide bit. It has been so easy.

Well, first of all, Rockler shipped out the order within 24 hours. so kudos to them for that.
I was stuck with a project that needed 8 sets of hinges. I hated to buy a drill press right now just for a small project, so I thought this jig would do the job. It did the job perfectly. I did have the doors on a workbench, and clamped the doors down to keep them stable, and used my left hand to push down and make sure the guide laid flat on all sides of the receiving end. BUT, I only have one HUGE suggestion: buy the carbide bit! If you think it is more expensive, it actually SAVES you loads of time. I was boring into oak, and the Rockler carbide bit performed flawlessly. Don't think twice, just buy it.

We needed a jig that would allow us to set our hole at 2mm,and this jig did just that. The customer support was excellent and we have no problem recommending Rockler to anyone.

This jig makes drilling cup holes easy. I would recommend getting the multi rail jig. It will make life easier. The only I don't like about this is the location of the center marks. However it is easy to transfer the center mark to the wood block on jig.

Jig worked better than expected - set up with ease - Wish I had purchased the carbide bit. Drilled 12 oak doors and had to stop and sharpen c.s. bit

Purchased hinge JIG IT template for re-drilling holes for concealed hinges that cabinetry contractor's personnel had incorrectly drilled for custom-made cabinet doors. Wanted to use drill ass'y from Rockler's Shelving JIG IT to install new 5mm holes need for hinge screws. Holes in hinge template for drill guide were not correct size, so redrilled for 3/8" dia. Template then worked perfectly for redrilling hinge screw holes in cabinet frames for six(6)cabinet doors, all lined up in a row. If you have to install holes for "shelf pins" for a shelving project, the Shelving JIG IT drill guide and plexi-template are a great tool that yeild excellent results.

Easy set up, works great. The forstner bit required much more down force than anticipated but using the jig set up on the drill press solved that problem. The whole concealed hinge installation was quick and easy and the hinges themselves were first class.

Works great! Positions the cup hole right where you need it. Then used the hinge along with a center punch to mark screw holes. This jig will give you square holes. You just need to be sure that you have the big round plastic part down on the lip of the black metal placement guide. Significant downward force is need for the forstner bit, that could be improved but not a big deal. I've used this for at least three hing types so far and is a breeze do set up and use.

The Jig It is an excellent tool. This was my first attempt at using concealed hinges and I found the jig was very accurate and easy to use. One note, if you are going to mount hinges in oak or any other hard wood, make sure to get the carbide bit. The jig did a very professional job, for a reasonable price.

I've used this jig on approximately 60 cherry doors and by now I really wish I owned a drill press. It does work quite well for what it was designed to do, but it takes a lot of muscle and time if you're doing more than a few doors. Like others have said there are some little things that could be improved to make it better. My biggest complaint is the amount of force it takes to drill a hole this big. It makes it difficult to drill a perfectly perpendicular and perfectly shaped hole as it tends wander a bit if you're not careful. The toggle clamp on the bottom makes it awkward to clamp the door to your workbench. Definitely get the carbide tipped bit; you'll probably have a better experience than I've had. If I ever do another kitchen I'm spending the extra $$ and getting a drill press.

This is a great jig. It is very easy to use and gives great results. This was my first experience using concealed hinges, so I was nervous about getting the holes in the correct position. This tool made the task very easy. Great price!

Was very disappointed to find out that you must purchase the long shank forstner bit as well. Regular shank bits won't work! Also, the long shank bit does not come included with the kit. I had to improvize without the jig for this job but will probably have to order the long shank bit for the next one.

This tool is a real asset. The template clamps tightly to the door. and the Drill Guide fits nice and snug giving the drill bit perfect alignment everytime. I purchased this single version because the multi rail was out of stock at my time of purchase. But I think this is great too. Its easy to set up and with the long shank 35mm rockler bit! I had professional results. Great tool and a Great Price.

This tool works and I would use it as my best option if I didn't own a drill press. But since I do own one I am disappointed I bought this jig. If you have a drill press then I think you be happier (and save some money) by buying the Hinge Cup Drilling Jig instead for these reasons:
1. You don't have to buy the long shank bit
2. This jig does not assure a perfectly perpendicular drilling angle.
3. If you don't drill perfectly perpendicular to the workpiece the template can wander producing a slightly oversized hole that is not positioned exactly where you wanted it.
4. The downward pressure required to drill the hole makes it easier to mistakenly drill at an improper angle.
I used the jig and it was faster to set up and more accurate than drilling freehand so I got more holes drilled in less time. But if you own a drill press then this is not something you need.

The jig worked well except that the black plastic guide that the forstner bit sits in got very hot from the friction caused by the bit spinnning. The friction caused the plastic to slightly melt off at the top of the jig. The guide should be lined with metal instead of plastic.

This tool is invaluable for Blum hinges but has one serious flaw. The set screw depth stop will loosen which can result in drilling through the door. Notching the drill shaft would permanently eliminate this.

I say only fair because the 35mm Carbon Steel Forstner bit will hardly cut soft woods, spend the extra money and buy the Carbibe forsterner bit. I also had to make up a special table in order to use the templates because the clamps get in the way of the material laying flat. The ideas are good they just need further development with higher grade of quality.

The only thing I was a little disapointed in was that I have drill bits but none work with the Jig. I would prefer to get the jig and drill Combo as an option. Now I had to order twice.

As others have found, it is easy to melt the top of the jig due to friction--then you must grind the top flat again. This part should be metal. Also the small toggle clamp included is undersized and does not hold well. However, with improvisation, the jig works well.

Works well and makes the drilling of the concealed hinge cup very easy, albeit with significant down force on the Forstner bit. I was relieved reading the same comment by other reviewers, because I was wandering if I was doing something wrong. My only complaint is that the metal plate is attached to the wood guide with small wood screws. This works well, but I am afraid the holes will wear and the attachment will become lose after several changes due to the requirements for different hinges.

The mounting plate template for thick door hinges that I ordered was not the correct setback for the plate. I had to redrill template guide holes, then worked fine. The 55879 hinges worked good.

This jig works well but the washer that rests on the plastic shaft can overheat and melt that part of the jig. I had to add two steel washers when the one supplied melted into the plastic. The dimensions also changed when that happened so the hole was not the correct depth. This needs to be improved.

5 stars for the first 3 uses of the product. Minus 4 stars for poor design. The housing is made of plastic. So, after a couple of uses, the spring gets hot, transmits the heat through the washer into the plastic housing, which melts. LOL, yes it melts. And when it melts, it increases the depth of the cup, compromising the hinge's weight carrying capacity. Impractical. Poor design.

Make sure to also order the forstner bit- the ones available around here flare out about half way up & so don't fit into the jig. The bit didn't seem terribly sharp- it did the job but was more work than I expected. Everything lined up easily & the six doors went quickly.
