I’m very pleased with the marble drill bit. Definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to make marble games or a wood display for marble collections. I used my drill press and it was much easier than a hand drill. You just have to be careful when using a template: be patient, precise and keep the drill speed to a minimum. The self centering bit works very well. When the template stays put. It makes very straight and accurate holes. I would recommend this to any game maker or beginner wood worker. Easy to use and project looks great when completed.

Bought the 41463 Marble bit and made a 'Solitaire' game from hard maple. Bit didn't leave the hole very 'clean' and there was 'hanging chad' inside the hole. I had to go back and smooth it our with sandpaper. Also, you definitely need the template, as the bit will wander if you try to free hand. I made my own from a 1/8" sheet of Lexan and a 9/16" spade bit.

This is my 2nd bit as they are very small and when you set it down they tend to get lost fast. I will put this away when done using it this time.

Descripion of game board templates allow you to drill hundreds of holes in minutes. My assumption was, if I used this bit for cribbage boards, using the template and the bit, I could do this in minutes. Wrong. The bit gets hot and then the spring mechanism won't retract and leaves the bit sticking out and you have to stop the drill and pull the outer cover down and then you must stop and let the bit cool. When I get the time to spend making a cribbage board with this system, I will send you a picture. Am I doing something wrong?

Editor's note: Heat indicates the too fast of rpms are being used. Reducing drill rpms will help bits from heating up.
