I used a 9/16 forstner bit to drill template holes in a piece of 1/8" masonite. Drills clean holes. Will not work very well without using a template.

I used this product to help me replicate a game that we used to play at my grandfather's house Chinese Pinball when we were kids. It works perfect with 1/2" marbles, or in this case 1/2" stainless steel ball bearings.

I had to create a template to hold the bit as I "plunged" down at the marble locations. The size of this hole is actually best if you can drill it at 17/32", however, I only had a 9/16" so I went with that. Then I cleaned out the hole by doing it one more time without the template. You have to keep clearing it out, but it's really no different than working with a shelf pin bit.

Drills very good holes but does clog quickly and must be cleaned out often. My pocket screwdriver does fine most of the time-if I clean it every use.

I found that the bit did a good job making marble depressions. What was not so clear in the description is that it is constructed to be used with a template. So, if you are creating a game that has no template, one ends up with a difficult issue of alignment. I found that removing the template following collar and spring made use much easier.

Good product. Kinda hard to line up using a hand drill, would be awsome if using a drill press.

Performs as advertised - makes great marble depressions.
What you need to know:
- You'll need a template or you'll have difficulty lining up where you want the depression to appear. I marked out the pattern I wanted on a 18"x18" piece of paper, and then adhered the paper to a similarly sized piece of plexiglass. Used a 9/16" spade bit in a drill press to punch the holes, though a forstner bit would probably have been cleaner. Using a template and a hand drill, I created over 100 impressions in less than 5 minutes.
- The bit will clog after 2 to 3 holes. Easily cleared by hand by compressing the collar, then letting it go, ejecting the sawdust.

Could be better if a cross blade was used. The paddle bit is a bit hard to make smooth on hard wood.
