I love having my own electric brand with the date. I thought I'd list the downsides, as I haven't seen them yet, but note that none of them would put me off purchasing this again in a heartbeat.

The thing gets REALLY hot, though it can take 20-30 minutes in a cold shop to really get hot enough to work. Keep testing on scrap to make sure it's really ready before you apply. My first few eager tests always result in very faded, half-missing marks until I give it enough time. It can still take 5 or more seconds on some woods to burn well, and if you're stamping several pieces in a row, it's good to take breaks, as it can really heat up your hands. Heat rises! I thought my hand was going to light on fire when marking a handful of small boxes :)

You definitely need to test to learn how to get an even burn. I have the date set, which is a bit tricky to get aligned well, as the two pieces clamp around the round shaft with 2 screws. so they can be off in elevation with the main brand, or rotated. I find holding the stamp down on my saw table - when off and cool - and lowering the date attachment to that gets the faces lined up, and then it just takes some fussing around to get it rotationally aligned.

Even though it's flat, I seem to need to rock the pressure around to each corner, and down toward the date attachment several times over the 5+ seconds to get it all evened up, and I tend to overburn, because it's nearly impossible to line it up again for a second try, especially while it's burningly hot. I can always sand down a bit to lighten up the overburn.

That said, also remember to finish the piece after you do the burn. I've had shellac+spar urethane bubble up and yellow on me, and blue latex paint turn bright yellow-green around it, though I don't know how you can fix the latter - maybe paint in those parts again with a detail brush, but that's no good if you have a lot of parts.

It takes a good long time to cool down, so I usually unplug it, leave it in the middle of one half of the saw table, with the cord wrapped around the fence extension so it doesn't pull it off the edge, and the saw is in the middle of the concrete-floored room. I always brand later at night, so I'm not in the shop anymore afterwards.

I purchased this for my dad's birthday for him along with the date attachment. It is the best gift I have ever given to him. Now all the woodworking projects he has done in the past and will do in the future will have his name on it.

I purchased one of your branding irons and am very, very impressed with it. The machining that went into the production of the iron is fantastic. The letters are sharp and very detailed. A must purchase for those that want to add that personal touch to their projects.

I enjoy the branding iron I purchased from you. The attention to detail it displays when used is second to none. I recommend it for use by all serious woodworkers to mark their skills and talents.
I am so satisfied with every product I purchase and will continue to make sure you are my only woodworking products supplier.

This thing is great if you're looking for a personlized touch on a budget. People really are impressed when they see the brand on their gifts. Hint: try out timing and pressure on specific wood species before branding your work...very hard to "fix"[burn] once branded.
