Recommended for the initial turning of uneven or square stock to round. The shape
of the roughing-out gouge enables the tool to cut safely with the wings (the name
given to the tips of the side walls) well back from the workpiece.
Not for use on bowl grain projects.

I have one of each of these tools and super tools they are. I make(for my own personal use) south of France bag-pipes called "Boudequè or Bodega" from the Montagne Noir region. They are thought to be the biggest bag-pipes in the world as they are made using the complete skin of a goat.[]The roughing out gouges are used for preparing the box-wood before turning the different components used in the construction of these bagpipes.
