Robert Sorby RS200KT Multi-Tip Hollowing Tool

The Robert Sorby RS200KT is a multi-purpose turning tool that comes packaged with three replaceable cutters - two for hollowing, one for scraping. Of the two hollowing cutters, the one with the rounded end is designed for general roughing out and will create a flowing curve as in the bottom of a vessel. The more pointed cutter is for fast material removal and also produces a crisp corner in a box. The scraper features a rounded section for inside curves and a flat section for outside curves. 3/4" half-flat shank is in permanent contact with the tool rest and so minimizes the impact of rotational forces. Features two hollowing tips which are fitted to a swivelling clamp. Swivelling clamp allows for straight hollowing and undercutting under a rim. One tip is rounded to create a flowing shape like bowls. Second tip is pointed for squarer shapes like boxes. Second end of each HSS tip is left plain for the turner to custom shape. Also includes a scraper blade for finishing. Scraper has three different working faces making it a round scraper, a half-round scraper and a square scraper all rolled into one. Scraper can be used on the half-round shank for shear scraping. All three tips or cutters are HSS and sharpened with a diamond hone on the top. Replacement cutters available. Separate beading, coving, and recess cutters (also called dovetail cutters) available separately. Includes hex wrench and hex-head bolts.

It is very well made, stable and easy to use, and it holds its cutting edge even in the toughest woods such as wenge and ebony. My favorite aspect of this tool is that it effectively replaces six other tools for a little more than the price of any one of them: The teardrop scraper replaces three sizes of round scrapers, a straight-end scraper, and a spear point tool, plus it can be used for shear scraping. If that weren't enough, the tool comes with two hollowing tips as well! In my opinion, this turning tool is the single best value for the dollar on the market today. 3) Submitted by Joe Bailey, from Fort Worth, TX on 2/18/2010 Customer Rating: It would take at least half a dozen other tools to replace my multi-tip shear scraper and you would have to work hard to convince me I might be better off. This one tool has saved me a small fortune in other tools I would want/need if I didn't have it. Changing bits is not as convenient as picking up another special purpose tool, but being able to adjust the angle of the bit to the task at hand is invaluable.
