I just bought a lathe and picked these tools for their price mainly. They all needed a good sharpening before use, but seem to take a good edge. I hope they will hold up. They're great for a beginner like me.

These are the "Great Neck" brand lathe tools. I was not overly impressed as right out of the box, the 1" skew had several nicks in the cutting edge. Although these are not high end lathe tools one would expect a little better quality for the money. On the other hand, they are still far better than [discount brand] lathe tools.
