This is a great product. Much better than band clamps. One thing to look out for is when your frame height to width ratio gets much bigger than 2 to 1. Ideally, the frame legs would be at a 45 degree angle which will produce equal pressure on the height and width. The greater the height to width ratio the more this angle changes. One fix would be to use a longer bolt or some other method to draw the two halves together. Other than that, this is a great product.

Getting the clamp set up for my thin, oblong frame was a little tricky, but frankly this is lots easier than trying to use separate clamps. Highly recommended.

I have always had problems getting frames square with corner clamps or pipe clamps. It was always trial and error in getting the right pressure on all four corners at the same time. This frame clamp works as advertised and the frames are square and tight. I found the bolt and wingnut to be cumbersome for me so I use the Irwin quick clamp instead. The first two frames I made were 30 by 42 and were exactly square.

I built a pict frame like a shadow box.Size was 12W" x 9"L. It required 2 pcs ea 2-1/4"W x 2"H x L. It worked well bringing all 4 corners together at the same time. The only problem was because the frame was 2" high it wanted to pull the bottom together an not the top. My frame was higher than normal and higher than the clamp fixture. A few regular clamps took care of the problem. I sure couldn't beat the price! I'm happy.
Thank You.

I actually used this to square up drawers after assembly. I simply turned the drawers upside down and used this clamp on the top of the drawer, and I used two f-clamps clamps for the bottoms. The drawers are perfectly square. I also used it to gule up a frame that went around my bathroom niche and it worked perfectly there as well.

I have a small photography business and I am beginning to make canvas gallery wraps up to 20x30 inches. After some practice on assembling precut strecher frames, I tried the Clampmate. It was so amazing, that I ordered a second clamp so that I could make them two at a time.
I usually leave the frames mounted in the clamp overnight so that the glue cures well. I found that they are not only squared perfectly but leveled too if you set the clamp on a level surface like a sheet of glass. This product is a real worksaver and produces very accurate results.

I have had one of these clamps for years (purchased elsewhere)and use it whenever I am making frames for my paintings. I was pleased to learn that Rockler offered them and ordered two more. They are easy to set up and apply even pressure at all corners, although I often add bar clamps to the top edge of deep frames.

Works nicely for medium size frames such as 8x10, but anything smaller it won't do because of how the clamps have to hook up.

I am a stained glass artist and I usually frame my pieces in a wooden frame. Since I have the Clampmate Frame clamp I can finish my project so much quicker and without a hassel. My windows look like a painting now with the wooden frame. I use my tablesaw to run a groove in the middle of my board to fit the glass piece into it. After mitering the corners of my frame I fit it around my Stained Glass piece, glue the corners and fit it in the Clampmate. This is so fast and my art pieces look amazing. I actually used a cheaper framing set which I purchased several years ago from Rockler, also, but this is so much better.

Hated It! Very poor, almost minimal instructions. I had trouble squaring up a small frame (which I squared up in just a few seconds using the Rockler Quick Release Clamp). Then over tightened (hard to judge how tight to make the clamp)and torqued a frame. I've decided to toss this clamp into my "use only in extreme emergency or throw out" drawer. The Rockler Quick Release is far, far better, much easier to use and less expensive.

Product is easy to assemble right out of box - say 5 minutes at the most. Used it right away to make a small frame. This tool really makes pulling all four sides together a breeze.

Our first attempt at making picture frames was a complete success ! By no means are we experienced in working with wood yet our frames came out extremely well, far better than our expectations. A big part of this was framing clamp, it 'pulled' all corners tight to make a perfect joint. We've had clamp for approx 2 weeks, and we've completed 5 frames. Assuming you start with clean, accurate miter cuts, you cannot fail with this product!

This is just one of a few items I received from you. It was instantly used and of great value in aiding the alignment and in particular glueing of the frames, it assembles fast and is removed fast, easy storage which is nice for me with the space I have to work in. Thank you for the products, keep up the nice inventory.

I attempted my very first picture frame using this clamp. I can't be more satisfied. It worked BEAUTIFULLY. The miters were perfectly joined. Not even the slightest gap was present. I will never be going to a professional framer again because I know I can make my own with the same professional results. I can't wait to use it again for my next frame. As a side note, this frame will not be as effective if you cut sloppy miters. So take your time, use a high quality miter saw or miter box, and you'll love the results. As usual, another top quality tool from Rockler!

I have made loads of picture frames and purchased several types of clamps and I always come back to this one. I wore one out after years of use and recently bought a new one. It works great for gluing up picture frames. If you are trying to force together bad angles this is not the clamp for you otherwise it works excellent.

This is the first frame clamp I have ever used that applied pressure diagonally inward, and this solved all the difficulties I have experienced in the past trying to join mitered frame joints tight and square.
I tested this clamp by making a 24"x24" frame. To make accurate mitered joints you need a good miter saw; I used the Nobex 180 to make accurate 45 degree cuts. Opposite sides of the frame must be exactly the same length, otherwise you could have problems, but this applies to any method of clamping a frame. The end results will only be as accurate as your cuts. Setting up the clamp and making a dry fitting is crucial. Because the clamp is so adjustable, you need to get it aligned first, making sure the parts are all set up evenly. I set my four sides in the frame and adjusted everything to fit. Once it was set up, I backed off the wing nut slightly and removed my pieces, applied the glue, and set them back into the frame. After tightening the wing nut securely, I checked for square. The frame was perfectly square as far as I could see; there was no discernible error at all. After the glue had set up for 5 minutes I drove in finishing nails into the corners. The total elapsed time to position the frame, dry fit the pieces, glue and clamp was no more than ten minutes, and this was my first attempt using the clamp.
The only thing I would like to see would be a larger wing nut to make tightening easier, but I suppose this could be replaced or altered. Other than that the clamp was very easy to use and gave me perfect results on my first use.

I purchased the clamp to repair a large frame that had fallen from the wall and racked the frame. The clamp worked amazingly well to pull all the corners tight. The frame was about 2" deep and the corners tended to bow up but adding small clamps at each corner to pull the frame tight to the Clampmate solved the problem. I would highly recommend the Clampmate for frame work.

I bought this frame clamp to help with make a bunch of 5x7 picture frames I was making as gifts. For me it worked great! Others say this it doesn't work for small frames, but it worked fine for mine, I just had to use the smaller end of the jaws that were designed to allow for nailing a frame together. I'm also pretty certain that my chop saw is not real accurate on the 45's but it still gave me finished work that looked great!

I have used this clamp several times, each with great results. Very easy to use and instructions were sparse but simple to understand. It can handle fairly large projects as well - I glued up a mirror frame that was 24" x 28".
Of course the clamp can't work wonders with badly cut miters, but it sure helps keeping things square when the time comes to glue-up!

Great clamp, squares up very nicely and holds firm without damaging woodwork. If you plan to work with small frames i.e. 5x7 or smaller this is not what you want. The box states it will handle down to 5x7 but it won't. For larger frames however it is "THE WAY TO GO."
Editor's note: Clamp corners are designed to be reversed to use for smaller frames.

I just got my new Clampmate Frame Clamp yesterday evening. Wasn't to happy with the Corner Clamp Pads(Light Plastic)and there are no replacement parts for this item. Over all it seems like that it could do the job. Making 8"X10" picture Frames using Barn Wood.

I have just begun making simple frames from barn wood. This frame clamp worked very well for the 5x7 size that I started with. The out-of-box experience was good as assembly was straightforword. The clamp went to work immediately. A bar clamp was required to replace the carriage bolt as it interfered at that small size. I anticipate this clamp will give long service.

I found this device awkward and clumsy ... and not user-friendly when it comes time to stow. Useless for small stuff, I tend to revert to squares and Rockler's Sure-Foot aluminum bar clamps for bigger frames. Also, can't be [easily] used with paned door frames [which I pin before glue up].
