Just finished this project today. First of all, the manuals are awesome, however you definitiely need the video to fill in some gaps. watch the video start to finish at least twice before starting and before each major step. Your measurements need to be exact for it all to work. I also had occasion to call the folks to answer a question for me, they were very friendly and Bill knew the answer off the top of his head - again very impressive. (BTW - Bill told me the gap at the bottom of the face panel from the finished floor was 2-3/8", it was exactly that!) Two other points, 1) other comments have mentioned finishing, I completely finished all parts before building, this slowed me down, but when it was done, it was done, watching the video shows you the areas which get glued, so you do not finish them; I highly recommend this approach. 2) You only need one sheet of 1/4" plywood for under the mattress (for a full), the plans say to use two strips from two sheets, i used 0ne 48" w x 75" strip and filled the rest with 6" strips from the offcut from the same sheet, since this is not a structural component, no problem. maybe I will sleep downstairs tonight!

The hardware is first class and the plans are very detailed. I had to adjust the plans in a couple of places because my hardwood is 13/16 instead of 3/4. I also used longer screws when attaching the top (for safety reasons). I build for friends for an office and they are very pleased with the final product. You can raise and lower the bed with very little effort!!

I added storage cabinets, a shelf/release mechanism, and folding work tables to this full sized bed. These modifications made it more useful in my wife's hobby room.

We completed this bed assembly on a Saturday with very few issues took about 13 hours. We had the birch plywood cut for us at the mill, well worth the 40$ they charged us. We are very happy with our bed. The only thing I would have changed is that I would have stained all the wood before assembly. There are several areas you can't reach once assembled. We had the DVD playing as we did each step in the assembly room and I think this made it go so smoothly.

We had talked about a Murphy bed for our basement for several years. After viewing a friend's bed and seeing how easy the bed is to use, we finally bought the kit. A friend helped me cut the full sheets of plywood on my table saw, after that it was a one show.
Usually I like the natural wood color but, on this project because it was going into our basement we decided to paint the bed white, so I used 3/4" birch plywood. A good project and a fine addition to our home. May make a full size for another wall in the basement.

At 73 this is my first furniture project that didn't include bricks and boards. Oak veneer plywood, and 1"X 2" solid oak was used with a chestnut stain and several coats of Minwax poly-urethane. Between the included written instructions and the DVD it all worked out very well. The bed functions effortlesly and blends well with the room; saves a lot of space; and is more attractive than the twin bed it replaced. An old "skill" saw, drill, and sawhorses comprised the "shop". Not quite up to Norm's This Old House standards but it can be done. Measure 10 times; cut with great trepidation. Watched the DVD many, many, many times. This project can easily (slowly) be done by one person with enough clamps and ingenuity. May do a queen size vertical next!
