Features

I waited 3 years to add this to my collection and it was 3 years too long. This machine is of the highest quality and does anything a non-commercial woodworking enthusiast could throw at it. I say non-commercial because I don't work in the field but use it most nights and weekends for hobby. I usually abuse my tools and this one will take it and keep going. You won't be sad you have this tool. An adjustable bevel table would be an improvement to the tool but I haven't found it necessary yet. You get what you pay for and in this case you'll be very satisfied.

Before the review, let me explain where I'm coming from. My father has been woodworking for as long as I can remember. I'm a Lear Jet 60 aircraft mechanic and know if a machine will last. I purchased this spindle sander and then returned it for the following reasons:
1-The entire motor assembly moves up and down to provide the oscillating action. This may not sound bad but the drive that provides the leverage is plastic. It is driven by the motor so some of the power is robbed from sanding. The plastic drive gear is the gear that other reviews on the net have complained about breaking. From the drive gear out is a rod that is attached to two stationary flat metal arms attached to the bottom of the table top. On the end are two wheels like a old train had. They work the same way to make the motor assemby go up and down.
2-The motor assemby is guided by two hollow rods. One rod has a brass bushing for support. The other is supported by nothing more than two bolts with nuts riding against the rod. Both rods are exposed/open to the dust under the table. Now the dust tube prevents the dust from falling down but the dust will still get to these assemblies. They were lubed/greased for operation but I did not see the rod with the bolts riding on it lasting.
3-The base of this sander is plastic and so are the trays for the extra parts.
This unit would make a good sander for the hobbists or sometime user. I did not use the machine just turned it on and inspected how it was made.
For your info, I purchased the Jet Bench Top Sander. High quality unit. All metal and passed my inspection. I don't mean to sound as if I know it all, just know quality when I see, like most of you do.
