I used the self centering bit in a drill press and had no problems with it staying in place with wide masking tape. That allows free movement on the drill-press table. It would be nice if they made the board layout larger and if they offered a carbide cutter for the drill bit. I made 14 Chinese checker boards for Christmas gifts and had to regrind the cutting edge and sharpen it at least six times. I don't recommend the marble storage router bit...it either burned the wood from moving too slow or caught the sawdust on fire if I went faster...I ended up not using it.

3) Submitted by Ed Ackley on 2/13/2009 Customer Rating: Just a note that may help some one using the Chinese checker drilling jig. I secure the jig in place with two domed faucet washers( outside dia that fits snug in the template hole) and two 6 X 1/2 wood screws. Drill all the holes except those holding the template in place. Remove the two screws and washers and drill the last two holes. Made checker boards for my Greatgrans (10) and not one hole misdrilled. So it works great.

5) Submitted by Bob, from Grand Beach, MI on 5/1/2009 Customer Rating: The jig works well; the self-centering bit that comes with it has a few small problems. First, sawdust gets into the centering mechanism and has to be cleaned out from time to time. Second, the bit tears the surface of the wood a little (I used maple). I don't know whether that's because it's not sharp enough, but 100+ little holes are a pain to sand.
