This is an excellent book for anyone considering purhcasing a lathe or just getting in to wood turning. I would highly recommend reading the book before you purchase a lathe.

Overall, an excellent general introduction to the lathe, its components and accessories. However, there are a few things I have noticed that could be improved. Some words are not defined, and included in the Glossary. For example, trammel, billet, etc. Also, when describing a beveled or angled cut, the angle often is given, but it is not clear which direction the angle runs. That is, should the workpiece end up wider at the end closest to the face plate, or furthest away? As an absolute novice, these little omissions are frustrating.
